What is this?

I have a 2008 auto sedan. I was cleaning it this weekend and notice two things I don't know what they are. The first in attached to the black trim around the bottom of my shifter. It looks like a button. I pushed and pulled but nothing happened. I popped it off and there is some type of button underneath. Any ideas.

The other thing is on the lights above the rear view mirror. It looks like slits in the plastic. Is it for heat distribution?

any pic of the first one? I'm not quite sure what you are referring to.

As for the second, it is believed to be for a microphone, as the Yaris in some countries comes with a built-in Bluetooth speakerphone. I think it might also be used, in other countries again, for the automatic climate control.

The first one is an emergency button to move the shifter out of park or possibly to move it if its stuck in any position. I had to use it once when I couldnt shift it out of park when I had a blown fuse. You hold it down and the shifter should move freely without having to step on the brake.

Dang, I was going to say it was the ejector seat button but Eii got to an answer first (which I agree with).
