Is this obsessive?

I use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil (and yes it is a true synthetic: I called the company and read the scientific analysis on it) and Mobil 1 filters. Yet I change my oil every 2000 miles. I am just a bit obsessive about my Yaris I guess. But am I being absurd?

You really are fine changing it at 5000 miles, especially if you use synthetic...

I don't know all that much about cars, though as i understand it you should get a greater amount of servicable life out of synthetic oil as compared to traditional which you may or may not need to change at 3,000 (some say 5,000) so changing synthetic at 2,000 mile intervals is probably excessive, though i guess except for some extra wear and tear on the oil plug its not harmfull, so if you have the money, the time and the desire, why not. I use traditional and change it at the mfr's recommended 5k interval and the car does just fine. (i am bracing for taking some flack on my extended oil change interval and engine sludge and the like, though i figure if its what toyota recomments and they are known for longevity and duribilty of their vehicles they aren't going to recommend a service schedule that would endanger that reputation, i trust that some of their fine engineers crunched some pretty gnarly numbers and did some extensive testing and i'm not going to second guess them when i can hardly add without a calculator)
