Foglight Quandry

My dealer told me that he cannot order Toyota OEM foglights for the Yaris hatchback. He said it either comes from the factory with them or not. Now I have seen them advertised online as OEM, but he said that cannot be, and I am being duped. Is this true, or is my parts man uninformed?

Yeah that is what does not make sense. I see "Yaris OEM Foglights" for sale all over the internet. Can they all be scams?

I believe he might be right. The factory ones are wired into the headlights. In other words factory fogs will only work when you turn on the headlights through the stock lighting switch. Which if you want to just run your fogs, you can't do it. I have been waiting for a DIY on converting the factory ones to fog only but it hasn't come up yet. The folks getting aftermarket have been able to do it. Check the forum and find out which kit is best and follow the DIY's and advice here to get the best of both worlds. Good luck.

Ok thanks. Mine is 2007. So would an aftermarket kit be hard to wire in for someone like me with VERY minimal wiring experience? I once wired up an antique motorcycle, but that was simple, old technology. How would one go about wiring it in? Thanks so much.

i HATE wiring and i didnt find it too bad. i followed the thread in the DIY forum and i figured stuff out as i went. honestly, the biggest pain in the butt of the entire install was taking apart the wiper arms, motor, shroud and whatnot to get at the rubber grommet in the firewall....other than that, it was pretty easy. the kit i got was fairly plug-and-play w/ OEM fit of all the parts (including the switch)

Now is the time to use the search feature here and check out the DIY section. The Barber said he got a nice set and wired them himself in no time. I don't know, mine came from the factory.
