WTF BBQ no 5pd option for 5 door s?

so i was putzing around at toyota while the g/f gets her tc serviced. I had the yaris since we were going to drop it off but it was only going to take an hour so we hung around

anyway i was talking with the dealer and they offered to buy my yaris for what i paid for it last year and get me in a new yaris S

so i was like ORLY?

so i tell them i want a 5 door S in polar white

cant find one in 5 speed.... how odd

come to find out they only offer it in the 3 door

kinda bummed me out a bit

so i started looking at the x-runner

hotness

but anyway anybody else bothered by this?

5 speed 5 doors yaris is likely to be available world wide, except in the states.

at least, it is available in Canada as a 5 door RS.

Doesn't make much sense to me. How is it that sedan and 3-door buyers want MT's but somehow 5 door LB buyers wouldn't? Come on Toyota...
Heck, if they build them in other markets anyway, how difficult is it to ship some to the US?

Certainly, in Europe/Asia they are readily available. Every car overseas is available with a stick. In fact, they think automatics are for lazy people.

I guess we just have to appreciate that Toyota brought the 5-door over here at all!

Just because you guys don't see the reason behind it, doesn't mean there isn't one.

Sadly it seems there are more people that want an automatic than a manual these days.
I was talking to my neighbor the other day about the same subject, he's 42 and never driven a manual.

That's just sad. Only one of my 4 kids is auto-only.

Not offering a M/T in the 5 door almost cost Toyota a sale in my case. Ultimately, I compromised on what I wanted and went with the 3 door. I just liked the Yaris so much better than the competition but still feel a bit shafted by not having the same transmission choices as the Canadian market.

Can you absolutely prove that?

Unfortunately, when it comes time to teach my kids to drive, I don't think we'll have a manual transmission to teach them on. My Yaris is an auto, as is my Jeep, and of course the wife's Odyssey is as well. So, unless we buy them their own car (or, God forbid, they buy their own like I had to!), they will be learning to drive an auto before they learn to drive a stick. That may not be a bad way to approach it, but they gotta know how to drive a stick!

Cheers! M2

I think so.

Check out the specs on Toyota's Canadian website.

5 door LE and RS are offered with a 5 speed M/T.

Yes, it bothers me, too.

I've asked Toyota about it, and they essentially said their market research showed there wouldn't be enough buyers to make it worth their while. I know I would've bought one if I had the option.

When I asked the Regional Toyota Rep about this she suggested I look at the xD.
