whistle?

anyone else notice the slight whistle from the intake manifold? normal? i think that it is normal as i have heard it on other echos that i see as well as 1st gen xBs and xAs... very low on gas pedal pressure, usually low in RPM almost sounds like a vacuum leak, but no codes, and it only sounds at a specific pedal point...

it's a common noise, usually louder when you have an intake.

Just in case, check for holes or breaks in the rubber/plastic.

you'd have a CEL if there were leaks between MAF and engine.

Not necessarily, had the rubber on my Camry's 4cylinder go bad, took me a week realize the NEW (lol) whoosing/wheezing sound was a tear-- no CEL. Then again the Yaris is newer, you could be right.

Doesn't hurt to look, does it?

For the record, I don't hear any sound from my stock unit.

actually mine is an 01 echo... same car, same motor, and has been doing it since i got into it with 10k miles just never really bothered with it... i think it has something to do with the fact that the intake manifold is plastic

no sir.

different intake manifold
different throttle body (theirs is drive by wire, ours is obviously cable)
different mass airflow sensor (we have an older denso unit, shared ironically with the STI)

etc etc. the list goes on.
