As soon as they started saying (pretty much) that the Ford f'n Focus is a better car than the Yaris, I stopped reading. I LOL'd and closed the browser.

Man ... where to start ...
I guess what gets me most about these reviews are the negative comments they garner. That, and it goes to show how a lot of people in America still don't care for small cars. I'm not necessarily talking about the reviewer, but some of the commentators. However, subcompacts in general aren't for everyone. For instance, the guy who said, "... in the real world a minimun (sic) standard for any size car show (sic) be decent aceleration (sic) to get you on the ramp and enable you to keep up with traffic... My life is worth more than getting 5-6 more miles to the gallon which is the only real value these "Boxes" have to offer..." I find the Yaris to have enough power for the freeway and for merging. Then again, everyone always wants more power. Enough ... I'm rambling.

"Be a Ture American. But an American Brand Auto. The income taxes you save in the future may be your own. GM is not going under.
Obama will see to it that the government continues to give them the money they need. BOYCOTT JAPANESE and KOREAN cars." Lol i love comments like these full of misspellings and ignorance. |

I do agree w/ the points the reviewer makes about price though. The Yaris is priced a little too high for what you get.

Coincidental how the American newspaper USA TODAY is praising a product from a failing American auto company at the expense of a profitable company and a reliable car,I had a few Fords over the years and they were unreliable pieces of junk right from the get go.

And the Escort....errrr...Focus is fucking ugly!
The same assclown test drove one in February, and said it had a "Euro" look to it. Bullshit, the Yaris looks more like a European car even with the fact that the Focus is sold over there. Plus, look at the gas milage in the Focus test drive...the manual transmission is rated 24 MPG in town, 35 on the highway, 28 combined; and the automatic: 24/33/27. The manual test car they drove got 20.4 mpg in enthusiastic suburban driving. A Yaris would get at least 30 MPG if not more during "enthusiastic suburban driving." The US media will do anything to save the US auto industry, except tell them to build better cars. Until they figure that out, I will continue to buy whatever gives me the best bang for my buck! |

I like the looks of the new Fiesta and european Focus. It's great that Ford appears to be upping the competition level in the economy segment, but they have to be better than Toyota and Honda for the same or less price for me to even consider them at this point. Luckily our Yaris should last until we no longer need a car which requires gas. Something like a i-Miev would be nice. |

now isnt the fiesta all european? i personally believe fiesta/focus and hopefully ford brings in the mondeo are good cars, since alot of ppl overseas love them. i think they would fare better in reliability than if they were designed in america, unless they used a tired american engine in. I dont know what internals they have in they car, so i dunno. maybe its because its a euro ford that makes me think its ok.
but yeah that makes me mad. i HATED the versa. bigger interior, i guess, but tell him to drop the back seat down and see that the back isnt lvl, and seems like the trunk only an afterthought. talking about power and size, then why is it that we have a speed limit, and most dumbasses drive on the fast lane at 45mph, and honk/flash at me when i go to the slow lane ON MY SLOW ECONOBOX@80-90 to pass 2-3 cars (suvs)?? L2DRIVE then start complaining about our little cars, america. Is stowage a word? Last edited by enviri; 06-01-2009 at 01:01 PM. |

My 2008 will still be purring reliabily along when my 9 year old needs a car for college.
Historically, you can't say that for it's NA counterparts. NOTE: I was going to write "NA competition" but they're not competiton in the long run.

American car companies spend all their money paying off reviewers.
Toyota spends all their money making good cars. |

Assuming a Ford Focus and a Yaris are the same price new, check what the side by side resale value of the two cars is 5 years up the road.

Thanks for posting the article, all i can say is all these reviews are is a matter of opinion. I have a 3 door 2009 Yaris 5spd and I think it's a great car. The center mounted speedometer took some getting used to, but other than that, I like this little car.
My wife has owned a couple of Toyotas and although she thinks they're great cars, she always had front passenger side brake problems. Even so, she says they were great running cars that other than brakes, only needed routine maintenance like oil changes and new belts every now and then. On the other hand, I've owned 3 Fords in my lifetime and had mixed results. The first was a 1977 Thunderbird, good comfortable car, never a problem with it. The second as a 1988 Ford Escort GT 5spd. I had a muffler rust out when it was only 3 years old which may have been due to the fact I bought from my brother who had lived in Pennsylvania at the time. Among problems it had were a bearing that started squealing when it was 4 years old, headlights that started filling up with water shortly after that, an alternator that went at 5 years, and at 7 years the clutch went, which I can understand since I drove it in alot of stop and go traffic. It then threw it's timing belt at just under 70,000 miles, which took the water pump with it, fortunately it was only a few months from the extended warranty expiring so I didn't have to pay. The next Ford I owned was a 1996 Escort LX with automatic transmission. I later learned my so called American Ford was actually a Mazda drivetrain with assembly done in Mexico. That car ran fine for 8 years only needing new belts once, new tires, new front brakes, one new battery, and oil changes. At around 70,000 miles, it's timing belt broke and about a month after it was repaired, the check engine light came on. At that point, I traded it for a slightly used 2003 Hyundai Accent that had pretty much the same history. I drove it for 5 years and never needed to get it fixed, other than getting new brakes, belts, and a battery. It got rear ended at a red light by a truck and it was totalled. That is how I got my Yaris. I bought it because it was the cheapest new car I could find on a lot in my area. So far, it's been a great car, and I hope it lasts me a good long time because I don't want to give it up. |
