The "detonator" in an airbag is composed of sodium azide. Very dangerous stuff, it's similar to what's in blasting caps and the primers of center fire cartridges.

One of my Professors had an accident as a child messing with that stuff. Partially destroyed his hands, leaving them mangled. He said to me, "Imagine trying to open the door of your house by draping a steak across the door knob.". He hands looked like claws with band aids on the fingertips and were sensitive to cold.

I dislike airbags.

Wish I could do that... but if I do and the car is inspected they'll flag it. I'd just as soon rip out those eye destroying falsies and be done with it.

I also think it's funny I found out about this on here a site for my wife's car, instead of waiting nearly a year for Honda to mail me something.

Interesting thought...... how long does an air-bag last? I have seen Volvo's with stickers that state the airbag is not certified after 5 or 6 years.

It's a shame that people are driving 10-15 yo cars that may not work properly.

I'd be glad to "lose" my airbag and still retain a "legal" car.

Say what you will about airbags but, they do save lives and prevent more serious injuries.

Shure, they can sometimes cause some minor injuries when deploying.
However, I know of mutiple incidents where people crashed and were extremely glad that the airbags deployed preventing more serious injuries or even death.

In my OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE most folks who were "saved" by Air Bags were not wearing seat belts.
