removing wheel hub - Toyota Yaris Forums

rear hub 07 hatch
I beat on these rear hubs with a wood mallet for a long time and there was NO sign
of them coming off or even loosening. Do I need a special tool to get the hubs off???
Are the front ones the same also??
I meant the brake drum...not the inner hub...its the drum thats stuck.

If you are trying to take the drum off you will need 2 bolts that thread into the 2 holes on the front off the drum. Screw in the bolts evenly and they will push the drum off.

I think the bolt size you need is M8x1.25 but I am not positive.

I honestly dont rememeber seeing holes in the drum.....I guess I have to take off the wheels again??

Here's a picture of the location of the threaded holes. Also, make sure the ebrake is off, or you will never get the drums off.

I have some pics from when I did it. I didn't get pics of every step, as I got frustrated not having the proper tools.

Question: are you going to buy a new wheel bearing / hub assembly, or just a wheel bearing? I've been told to do the hub assembly as a unit. I didn't have that much at the time I did it, so I only did the wheel bearing.

I will TRY and get something going tonight.

edit: yikes. removing the pics from my windows phone isn't as easy as it was with my iPhone. damn it.

the hub isn't bolted to the spindle assembly. It's pressed on. For that part, I took it to a shop (Pep Boys). - If you're talking about the lugs, those too are pressed on (and should be part of the hub assembly you buy new)

I brought a blank CD to help me move the files off my phone and onto the internet. I'll be doing it little by little during the day

the rear hub assembly is bolted on to the rear axle. There are 4 bolts and I am looking at them right now. Anyone know the torque..???

Like others have said, buy the whole hub assembly, it's way easier unless you own or have access to a press. Here is an example of a new Yaris hub from Rock Auto, where I buy about 80% of my parts.....

This is what you end up with if you break them down yourself, hubs and bearing carriers just waiting for bearings and seals to be pressed back in.....

I got the whole assembly today... same as the pic but mine were Timken and look good. I dont have a torque wrench, is 67 pounds reachable with a regular open end wrench???

Yes, did it yesterday and got them at Home Depot.

I got into it only to realize I didnt have a 14 mm.I was going to buy one and then I called a Les Schwab
and they said 90$ if I had the parts. So they did it . It took 3 hours by an experienced brake mechanic
who needed an air chisel to get the hubs off. I would not have gotten 1/4 of the way thru it.
Glad I hired someone else.
