Installing an outside temp probe on 2010 Yaris

I want to replace my interior mirror with a CIPA 36500, which has a an outside air temp gauge, but the installation requires running wires from the mirror rearward to the upholstery, then horizontally to one of the posts, then down the posts to the engine compartment, then to the front of the radiator. Does anyone know how the upholstery is attached to the roof and the posts of a Yaris?

Take a look at the "interior" section of the service manual, which is posted in the DIY section of the forum. The manual is the 2007 one, but the headliner attachment and A pillar (with curtain side airbags) attachment are still the same.

I'm very interested in this; be sure to post photos!

Thanks CTScott. I'm new to this and didn't know about the Technical forum. Obviously where I need to be.

By the way, for those interested in outside temp without pulling the head liner, my YarGauge (clock replacement module with full scangauge functionality) will be shipping soon and grabs the outside temp from the probe for the AC ECU.

I didn't mean to threadjack with a shameless plug, but part of the reason I started developing the YarGauge was that I really wanted an integrated outside temp display. I looked into the mirrors with temp, but thought they were too expensive for what they are.

The YarGauge sounds cool!

I miss the instantaneous MPG and outside temp readouts from the Volvo I had. Don't want to fool with a Scangauge.

CTScott, I'm glad you jumped in with your "Shameless Plug". I really miss having the outside air temp and compass that I had in my previous car, but like you said swapping out a mirror is pretty expensive just to get those two things. I'd also like to have some other gauges, such as water temp, and your approach is much more aesthetically pleasing than the Scanguage box. Where can I get more info?

Check out the link under the picture in my post above. The thread shows the evolution of it and the features I am including (which include water temp and a few other readings). Compass isn't part of it, but with a GPS I haven't missed it.
