its been talked about... ive debated giving it a shot. if you are serious, there is a 1st gen vitz that has done it using the 6spd + LSD from the blacktop 4AGE engines. Id look into what he did and go from there.

from what i understand, the 6speed from a 4age will bolt up
c60 from a gt-s/xrs wont fit, but i was talking to a toyota tech last month, and the gears will fit in a c54 (i think thats what it is, maybe a c50)

I think the OP's question is answered, which is that one guy with an Echo mated a 6-speed to a 4AGE.
My question is what is the advantage to a 6-speed on this car?

thanks garm thats exactly what I posted lol.
Very expensive with little to no benefit. You might shave a tenth of a second on acceleration due to more torquey first gears and u might get 1 or 2 extra mpg in 6th gear but really worth the couple grand to find, buy, modify (if needed), and install the damn thing? I dont think so. |

yea those are benefits but we're just saying that they will be very slight to notice and its not really worth the large amount of money this project would require.

Maybe the new 6 speed gearbox seen with the 1NR-FE engine could work. But i doubt its worth the effort.

i thought of this idea (for about 1.2seconds) cuz having a 6th gear is a cool idea, but really i agree, not worth time, effort or money.

For anyone that ever goes to the track, the 6 spd is TOTALY worth it. And revs would be HIGHER in 6th on the hwy. My parents have a XRS with the 6 spd and even with the tires being a lot bigger it still revs higher than the Echo in any gear.
For comparison... C160 C150 A Graph to show the difference. 6th gear is less than 6mph faster @ 6500 than 4th on the 5spd. That's a massive difference in acceleration. |

thats kool, but would the yaris (or vitz) be able to hold down the extra acceleration to the track? i know slicks (orjsut supper soft compounds) would be in order but even that wouldn't it be very very difficult?

Hm my revs with the 6 speed are definitely lower on the Autobahn. That was the main reason for Toyota to introduce this gearbox here. More fuel efficiency. But i am sure i dont have a C160. Must be something else because its very new.

id imagine it depends on the final drive you've got in the transmission. i thought wikipedia showed that the 6th gear in the c60 is lower than the 5th in the yaris
