he though by going faster he could squeeze under the bridge easier. look how far the truck is from the bridge and see how wide the bridge is.

If you play it back, right before the bridge you'll see a sign on the right that says 9'6". So if you try to drive a 13'6" trailer under a 9'6" bridge you get .......a large shiny recycle bin!

I was driving home for LGA one late foggy night after a wicked delayed flight and passed a trailer truck on the Hutch. Just as I passed it and thought to myself "trailer truck not allowed on here" I went under an overpass, heard and incredible sound, and looked in my rear view mirror and saw a plume of sparks.

yeah from the Hutch to the Merritt. dumb truck drivers. I always see them being stuck under the bridge, but never 50 feet after the bridge. lol

sad...there was another trailer stuck yesterday 20 exits north of where that was lol. Drivers need to learn parkways = no trucks..

That was always the reason I loved the Merritt - take the kid down to Bronxville to college, and back, and had some fun corners to play with and no trucks. Guess I'll have to think again next time I get out there.

He deserved it. The merritt parkway says no trucks every 50 feet, on every on ramp, and pretty much everywhere you could think of, then some. The driver should be executed for stupidity, just on the chance he will do something this stupid again and kill someone.

glad his idiocy didn't hurt anyone else.

I love that road too. Those two parkways make the drive to NYC fast, and a heck of a lot of fun too.
