Yaris 1.0L, 1.3L, or Diesel

I remember the old Geo Metros with the 1.0L 3cyl. engines, and what kind of gas mileage they got. I know Yaris makes these vehicles in other markets around the world, and my question is why won't they offer them here? It's insane, considering gas prices will only get worse. Given the choice, I'd always invariably choose the smaller engine. And if I had been given the choice, I'd choose the 1.0L Yaris or diesel Yaris. I think it sucks that we are denied the choice given to everyone else around the globe.....
