Is this a good price?

2012 Yaris L 3-door, 5-speed in magnetic grey...$15,800 out-the-door price, all taxes and fees included.

The same car, from the same dealer, who two months ago would not back off of $16,300, which saves me around $500.

So, my friends...Is this a good price, out-the-door?

Wow! How did you swing that?!

Tell me your bargaining strategy?

I called Toyota Financial Services to see if they would extend the College Rebate past Jan 4th, 2012. They told me that we won't know anything until like one or two weeks prior. I'd prefer to put more than $5k down (about what I have now), but I might have to jump on it.

Congrats on the 2012, by the way. Happy motoring, hope to join you in Yaris-ville shortly.

According to the sales man, they already reached their yearly goal so they are selling cars at cost or something just to get more Toyotas on the road.

All I did was go to www.truecar.com and it took me to the dealer that just happened to have a 2012 5 speed in stock. No negotiating was necessary with truecar. Well I got them to take an extra 10 off to make it 14k even. Their computer showed that they made -327 off me because I didn't take any of the extra warranties or accessories.

The car I got didn't even sit on the lot. It came in 12/6/11 and I picked it up 12/7/11. Has a 10/11 manufacture date

Now THAT is what I'm talking about!

Few dealers are willing to roll over so easily. I am so using TrueCar, and not dealing with all that haggling nonsense.

You did very, very well man.

Awesome deal. Just awesome.

Just an FYI, Ive been wanting a Yaris since I joined the forum in 09 and the college rebate has always been $1000 and extended after each time it expired.

I know the rebate has been around a while, but last year, Toyota didn't have to deal with such a strong Yen, and such a weak Dollar (they are losing thousands just in exchange rates for most of the imported cars into the U.S. market, according to autoblog).

I was thinking they may just axe the program altogether, as it is more blood (money) lost for the Company.

But I'm not in Porkland...I live in Texas. I'm not going to drive across state lines to save a few dollars.

I'm a cheapskate, but even I have my limits.

this Truecar thing seems like another great idea for car buyers. between that and nada/edmunds/ etc giving you the real prices on all the accessories, you should be able to get someone to give you a price you want.

If you are willing to wait, figure out a price you will pay, call a few dealerships in your area, and tell them exactly what you want, exactly what you will pay, and how many local dealerships you are calling with the offer. One of them will bite for a quick sale.

Well, as I said, I got an offer for $15,8xx out the door, w/taxes and all fees for the '12 base L hatch in the clean magnetic grey. However, this is the only dealer (correction), was the only dealer in the area with one in stock. Toyota is taking their sweet time shipping these cars to Texas, it would seem.

Another dealer has a red base, but it's on their website for $16,800 PLUS all the taxes, fees, etc. That is not a good value, plus in Texas, red cars quickly turn pink after a couple of years. They also attract the po-po, who want to put their hand in your wallet because they need more donuts.

I won't lie: I want my Yaris now. But, I don't want to vastly overpay. If the dealer makes $500 on the sale, I think that's fair. But $1,000+, no way. I'd rather keep my Geo, as sad as that sounds.

Perhaps when these cars are at more dealerships, they will all start to really compete on price? Hopefully they will.

Dealers sometimes get a behind the scene rebate from TOYOTA . I'd wait until more abundance of '12s for a better deal . Did you use TOYOTA website to search for '12s in your area ? Best of luck .

Yes, I did. The dealers in my area have several "available", but almost none "in stock". I checked not only the official Toyota website, but the sites of the respective car dealers in my area.

If I wanted to order one, I could no problem. However, I want to view all the colors in-person before making my final decision. I will have to stare at it for the next 5-10 years, after all (about how long I'm going to keep this car). Also, I want to test-drive my exact car before signing anything. For all I know, the one I order could be the 1 in 1,000 with a bunch of rattles or scratches, then I'm stuck with it. I don't want that to happen!

I know it sounds petty, but this is my first new car, and I have saved up a few grand through a lot of hard work. I want to make sure I'm not ripped-off.

But yes, you are correct. I will wait for more '12 to hit the lots...I just hate that it is taking Toyota so long to get them out there locally! What's the holdup, Toyota?!

One last thing: I guess I am so impatient because I know that the manual transmission is on the way out, and I want a new one before they force @#$%$% CVTs, paddle-shifters, and other autos on us against our wishes as consumers. It's hard as hell trying to find a manual '12 Yaris...It's only going to get worse as the years go by...

After I earn my Master's, I'm going to buy a Subaru BRZ with the 6-speed...hopefully, they will still be making them in 2014-2015...I know this is a Yaris forum, but that car is sex.

Just might be that they are all in transport, the one i bought on the 7th was manufactured in October, and it had just come off the train from Portland.
