What do you mean?

I see a lot of posts about how much everyone spent on their yaris or other vehicle.
They say things like out the door price, cash price, final price, total.

We're looking at replacing our totaled yaris with a 2012 5 door, automatic, cruise, LE trim. Lagoon Blue.

I am confused as everyone seems to be getting theirs at a steal.

MSRP = 15625.00
before t+t+t = 17683.98
with t+t+t = 19104.09 <<<that is out the door price correct?

Yet, I see people on here stating they paid around $14000 to $15000 for theirs (albeit a manual and base model). Are you including the tax tag and title in that number? I checked TrueCar.com and they are saying for the options (can't take them off i.e tint and toyotacare crap, friggin nitrogen in the tires) and the trim we picked we should be paying $17204 (minus the tax tag and title and other applicable options etc.

Does this seem legit? Am I missing something?
Did I leave something out of this post?

Help me out here people lol.

I also wondered the same thing just before I bought my 08 3-door base used.

I see how everyone's paying these outrageously low prices and I get quoted around $17k before tax/license (loaded though). Of course, that's before negotiating, but still, seems kinda steep for an econo-box. I didn't even bother stepping foot in a dealership. Got my 08 from Carmax for what I thought was a reasonable price.

Having said that, my mom missed the boat on buying a sedan when they were still available new, thinking she can eek out a few more years from her old car. In early 2012, she ended up with a used 2011 for about the same as they did when they were new (certified pre-owned).

Good hunting.

Carmax was an option, but nothing had the options she wanted. (i.e. p/w and p/l and cruise).....
I'm hoping we can get them to do total pricing inc ttt, at 18000 to 19000.

Pricing has to do a lot with the dealership themselves. It's hard to compare numbers from different dealerships much less different states. There are too many variables, location, cost of living, sales, private vs corporate dealerships, etc. Some states may be having promotions that yours may not. The best thing to do is go to each dealership in your area and shop, get prices, and make them work for your business. Most dealerships will try and beat their neighbors numbers as they want that sale even if they have to knock 1-2k off their price. They either get 14-15 or they get 0.

For example, in my area there are about 5-6 Toyota dealerships that compete. One of them is privately owned and they are always willing to knock off a few stacks, offer free service for a few years, take $0 down, or give a 0% finance period.

Yet at this time, one of the more expensive dealerships in the area is having their biggest sale of the year and is offering cash back, 0% financing, and no tax or dealer fees.

These types of variables make it hard to compare pricing with someone not in your area and not buying their car at the same time as you. Shop around and really make those dealers win your business.

Part of it is the model.

From Truecar.com:

5dr auto LE: $16,613 versus $14,674 for a 3dr manual L or $17,686 for a 5dr auto SE. So, you have a $3K range to start with.

I think another part of that variation depends on state sales tax. Here in CT 6.35% means an extra $1079 on a $17K car.

+1

Another thing to beware with the online community is partial truths. I had seen too many people to count when the Yaris first came out saying that they could get a Corolla for 500-1000 more than a Yaris so they couldn't understand why for example someone would pick up a Yaris sedan. The dealerships in Maine all were asking 4-5k more for a Corolla than the Yaris so I found what they were saying a hard pill to swallow so I would go online to look up pricing at dealerships in their area and found prices much higher than they were trying to say. Sure, in person maybe someone was wheeling and dealing and got a "discount", but I find it really hard to believe that they were getting what they said out the door as they drove onto the pavement to their homes. My S Sedan cost me 15910 before the garbage and it was somewhere in the mid 17s out the door.

I also have no idea about the 14-15k prices.

I got my 2012 base model manual transmission 2 door hatchback for $16,600 total out the door cash price, and that includes 8.75% sales tax.

I have the same car as Tooter and I paid $15,666 out the door with TTL. However, my tax was reduced a fair amount because I had a $6,500 trade. Without that trade, my out the door price would've been about $16,077. Not sure if that's useful to you, however.

I paid $13,700 out the door (total) for a brand new 2008 auto with just nine miles on it in November of 2008; it had basically been sitting in the car lot for a year, and they were probably fairly desperate to get rid of it to make way for the 2009s. If you stop and think about the sheer number of cars for sale in this country today, you can see where they'd be more open to dickering toward the end of the year; also, mid-summer sales...
