Buying a 2008 Yaris- Need Your Advice

Hi everybody,

I'm taking a test drive on a 2008 Yaris tomorrow. I just want to get your advice before buying it. The seller mentioned that the brakes are soft. She had to step on them early. This caused me concern, so I did some research online. It seems that many 2007 models had problems with the brakes locking up. Other people said that the rear brakes make grinding noise. I am wondering if it this is an issue for 2008 models as well. I just want to make sure the brakes are safe, because I'm getting the car for my wife. Thanks in advance!

how many miles on it? It could simply mean the current owner is one of those people that enjoys slamming the brakes as hard as possible at all times.

I've locked up my brakes once or twice, but only when forced to stop from 60+ mph. No abs does that. I've always thought the brakes were great, but then again most of my interior is out of the car.

It could be that the rear brakes just need the accumulated dust cleaned out. I had that done and the parking brake tightened to 1 click and the total was under $40.00 USD.

Have them checked out by a reputable mechanic/shop. The Yaris is a light car and doesn't require a lot of braking forces to stop it. My 2008 hatch stops easily, and I don't have ABS. Never had an issue with them, and I am the original owner.

I have to admit I think it's the seller trying to cover something up...
