Trying to install DRLs

Hi guys

Wanting to install some DRLs and want to do it properly with the 'auto off' function when I put my sidelights on. I have a basic understanding that I'll need a positive and negative on a switched live feed and a trigger wire to the sidelights, right?

Just wondering where the best places are to attach the live and earth to? Perhaps the cigarette lighter fuse or something like that?

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks.

auto off function, what does this mean? when car is shut off?

You can connect the positive to the cigarette lighter wire, and negative just find a ground anywhere. Then the DRL will come on when ignition is on and off when ignition is off

I think OP meant auto-off when the main headlights/park lights come on.

Relays will be required: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32886

I wonder if it's possible to mod the DRL box from a second gen to work on the third gen. I have a spare laying around, if CTScott could chime in I'd be more than happy to send it to you :)

Using the 2nd gen DRL box would be more of a hassle. The simplest method is to just install a relay (with the coil power connected to the pink wire on the ignition switch connector) to provide ignition switched power to the DRLs.

If by auto off, the OP is referring to them being on with the ignition and then turning off when the headlights are turned on, a second relay would be required.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Sorry, I've been offline for a while and didn't see the replies. Yes, by auto off I mean when the sidelights/headlights come on they have to go off (law over here). I have managed to find a place that sells this relay which is attached to the ignition and my sidelights so that as soon as I fire up the car they come on and when sidelights are on DRLs go off. I was lucky enough to find one for my H11 fitment which I am currently running 6000k LEDs in so they are in the perfect spot for DRLs.

Thanks again for replies and I'll post up some pics installation perhaps when done.
