door locks

I just want to confirm that the following is the way all 3rd gen yaris were built. when locking/unlocking by key, the trunk and passenger doors unlock with a left turn and lock with a right turn. however, the drivers door locks with a left turn and unlocks with a right turn, with to me is counterintuitive. if others don't have this issue with the drivers door, then someone was asleep when my door locks were put in.

My passenger side locks and unlocked the opposite direction than the drivers side. if that's what reassures you.

but from memory, my 05 hatch locks and unlocks the same as the driver's side.

don't know why they did it this way. everything car I have ever used a key for locks to the right and unlocks to the left. ive been meaning to get keyless entry so it wouldn't matter, but haven't gotten around to it.

You can't really do it this way on the passenger side, because the cable runs the opposite side.. unless you have an electronic switch...

btw, if you have power door locks (even without keyless entry), if you unlock twice on the driver's side, it should unlock all the doors.

right. it is actually the passenger door and trunk that are ok (lock right/unlock left). its the driver door that is "backwards".

no big deal, but ive never seen this even with my previous two corollas.

Thank you for starting this thread. When the 3rd Gen first came out, I looked at one at a dealership. The sales rep didn't know how to open the hatch (), and I was oblivious to this set up until you enlightened me. I agree, the set up for the driver's side is counterintuitive.

2nd gen is the same way. i assume they save $1 by doing it this way. I'm fine with that.

I assume you mean the directions re the passenger door and the driver's door. I never noticed. I always lock the door from the inside, and have never paid that much attention to the unlocking. I don't have power locks. I know there are arguments for not having a keyed lock on the hatch, but I prefer that. Additional functionality via a MANUAL hatch release lever would be best * .

U.K. spec., French built 5 door. Only has one door with a keyed lock facility. i.e. driver's door - which is your passenger door. This unlocks anti-clockwise.
Other than to save money, I can't think why there isn't a keyed lock on the passenger side - your driver's side!
My car's handbook does, however, refer to two front doors with key access. I can't remember, without checking, if there is "if fitted" though.

I've never used the key to lpck or unlock the doors before. I have an aftermarket alarm fitted + keyless entry standard. I will check it out though & share my findings.
