I thought vast majority (if not all) cars now had chains versus belts??! No more changes at 60,000. Guess the timing chain can last over 100,000?

my chain is 110,000 miles old....never broken...!
but i have also the original clutch!!!

Chains can last indefinitely. Belts are quiet, but a pain in the butt because they have to be changed. I'm glad Toyota seems to have gone to chains in all of their engines now. I think Honda still uses belts in some of their engines.

What does the manual say for how many miles the chain needs to be changed?

Cause if that chain goes - your whole engine is screwed

IIRC it's a non-interference head....so if it breaks you'll be okay, but it will still cost a pretty penny to fix none the less.

Normally a chain will wear and stretch, giving you lots of warning (noise, poor performance, etc.), but a belt works fine until it snaps.

If they can make a belt to replace the transmission, how hard can it be to make one that's as durable as a timing chain?

Since I had to change the timing belt 2 times on my old Honda before I sold it, I'm glad I don't have to worry about timing belt changes. I wasted $1500 on the belt replacement, simply because the manufacture couldn't rely on their product and I had pay expense.
