Chevy's solution: copy Toyota shamelessly

Check this out:

http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/new_...-Got-the-Beat/

The Beat = The Yaris

The Groove = The Xb

The Trax = The Matrix

Jeez, how could you not like the look? It's almost the same. It looks like a pissed off mini train.....

I'd never betray "The Gobstopper" for a Chevy....

im sorry but those are the ugliest cars ive ever seen. People who waste money on these kind of cars needs to get a life and should know ugly shit like that will never sell. If it does sell then people are stupid. Who names cars beat, groove and trax? following the trend of car names like fit

I think this is a great thing for Chevy to finally bring some small exciting cars to Americans. Some people just wont buy Japanese cars. The Trax is doing something I thought of a long time ago which is use a gas engine for the front wheels and an electric engine for the rear that boost you from a stop. Then the batteries charge back once you get going. The Groove has a 1.0 litre diesel! I think if Chevy keeps them just the way they are shown on that site, they will have 3 little hits on their hands. I think they look pretty cool. All 3 of them!

You GOTTA be joking Chino. The only thing that'll be Chevy on those cars is the bowtie, and even that will be manufactured in China. Are their Toyotas and Hondas crap too, just because they have a GM-owned emblem on the hood?

As for the "only buy American" people, you've gotta wonder what rock they've been living under all this time. Are there any mid-sized or smaller American cars that don't have Asian power plants?

It is a neat design, just a little too boxy.

you guys realize that the last american built car that had 100% american parts was produced back in the late 1950's. since then the majority of parts are from japan mexico canada and europe... take a look at some of the ignition components on a late model corvette, they are made by kawasaki. and a lot of parts on say a camry are made here in the usa. my point is people who buy american cars to support the american product are not supporting as much as they think... i may be wrong but i remember reading about a particular toyota model (camry?), american factory built, using more american made parts than some GM and ford cars built cars at the time. anyways... thats just my two cents. if people did more research on a car they like they would be surprised what they are buying.

one good example is the fusion vs. camry vs. accord. the camry and accord are both built in the US. i think i remember reading the fusion being built in mexico. so toyota and honda actually have the more AMERICAN car. gm also builds a crap load of cars in canada. i guess when chevy says "an american revolution", they mean STOP building cars here and START building cars elsewhere...

Cant wait to see the YouTube videos "Yaris vs Beat (beat gets beat)"

Who knows, I might have to make/post one

My girlfriend says it looks really cool, she thought that would be neat to see out on the road.

I told her the first one we see is probably going to be getting dragged down the highway at 60+ underneath a transfer truck

Most people who refuse to buy Japanese cars drive gas gussling trucks so I still wouldn't be surprised if these don't sell that great. At least no better than something like the Aveo. This is probably a desperate measure to gain back some of the people buying the Yaris, Fit, Scion xB & that Honda that looks like a box. These were designed in South Korea according to the article and considering Hyundai is a Korean company, I'm not really surprised at the copying.
And I'd say the fact that Toyota surpassed GM recently in sales and a general downtrend in American carmakers says that there's also not many xenophobic Americans who refuse to buy anything but American cars. Most probably realize that no matter what they buy, the majority of the individual pieces are probably from China, anyway.
Besides, the Beat looks really freaky to me. The blue in the headlights make them look like eyes and the black stripe kind of completes it to look like a frowning face. I hate the boxy looking cars like the xB so the other two are particularly unappealing to me.

Also.

Chevrolet is inviting the public to choose their favorite by visiting www.vote4chevrolet.com, where enough interest may provide the impetus to take one of these vehicles to production.
So there's a good chance only 1, if any, will ever be seen in full production. Which, knowing Chevy fans, will probably be the largest of the vehicles.
