Camber's Off
So I got four new tires installed today and the gentlemen behind the counter informed me that although my alignment was ok, my camber was way off (front passenger only). He suggested correcting the problem with camber bolts. My question is... since camber isn't really adjustable on our vehicles could something be broken? Perhaps a bent strut? I feel like camber bolts would simply be a bandaid. The culprit is the wheel with "81270" written next to it. Thanks!

I'm not an alignment expert like some of the guys on this forum but that looks like the toe is out to me. That should be adjustable without the use of camber bolts. Hopefully one of the experts will weigh in but maybe take it to another shop?

Yeah the toe is what's out. 0.2° of camber won't effect anything. I run -1.0° of camber and there's no abnormal tire wear. The toe being out will cause tires to wear and lessen you gas mileage.

Experienced alignment guy here:
Your camber/caster are fine. You will not have any symptoms, or tire wear from that. In fact, most people see better tire wear from more negative camber (to a point). Assuming the steering wheel was straight when that was printed, your RF toe is out. That will cause tire wear on the inside edge, and should definitely be done. Chances are the guy you were talking too didn't know anything, but the mechanic in the back did. Wherever you go to get the alignment done, tell them you want a "toe-set" only. Most shops have a reduced rate for only doing the toe, and it may save you some $. Cheers. |
