Here's more on Toyota becoming number 1:
http://www.ajc.com/business/content/...Toyota_GM.html Toyota Tops GM in 1Q Global Auto Sales By HANS GREIMEL Associated Press Writer 'TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. became the world's top auto seller in the first three months of the year, passing rival General Motors Corp. for the first time, the Japanese automaker said Tuesday. Toyota sold 2.35 million vehicles worldwide in the January-March quarter, the company said, surpassing the 2.26 million vehicles that GM said it sold during the same period. The results mark the first time Toyota has beat GM in global sales on a quarterly basis....' I'm glad I could help Toyota achieve this lofty title. But we must all remember...'with great power comes great responsibility'. Keep your focus on reliability not sales and the customers will keep coming Toyota.

"General Motors Death Watch 119: Toyota Replaces GM as the World’s Largest Automaker
"...You don’t need to compare long and short term business plans to understand the difference between Toyota and General Motors; although if you did, GM’s recent inability to devise a coherent platform strategy or develop a world class economy car would certainly give you pause for thought. All you have to do is sit in a few cars..." rest of the article here: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/?p=3590 :D |

areitu, that article was great! Though it is kinda' sad to see a legend go down in flames (gotta' respect the classics). I've long wondered why they felt the need to carry so many brands, when it was so painfully obvious that they were all the same cars? Surely they don't think that's fooling anyone...?

Even if GM pulls ahead in sales by the end of the year, the more important number, profit, will still have Toyota in first place.

Toyota 4Q Profit Rises 9 Percent 'TOKYO — Toyota's profit climbed nearly 9 percent in the first three months of 2007 as the automaker marked its seventh straight fiscal year of record sales amid robust demand for its Corolla, Camry and Lexus models. Toyota Motor Corp., which beat General Motors in worldwide vehicle production and sales in the January-March period for the first quarter ever, reported Wednesday a group profit of 440.1 billion yen ($3.67 billion) for the quarter, up from 404 billion yen a year ago. Toyota's sales are surging as soaring gas prices boost the appeal of its models, which are reputed worldwide for fuel-efficiency, including gas-and-electric hybrids like the Prius....'
