Slight problem for a newbie Yaris owner...

Hey Every1,

In RE: Yaris Liftback - Automatic Transmission... concern???

I am so glad to be a part of this club... I just picked up my Yaris 6 days ago and put less than 200 miles on it when I discovered that I have been making a MAJOR Boo-Boo.

I put in over 70 hours during this past work-week and am just now getting to reading my manual, when I discovered that I was inadvertently driving to and from work at under 65mph +/- while in gear 3 (looked confusing to me 3-D) and not DRIVE.

My Yaris has only 200 miles on it, and is still in the break-in period, does anyone here think that I hurt the transmission or engine in any way?

The odd thing was that I was trying to figure out why the car never seemed to auto-shift, but now I realize, because of stupid me... oh well, live and learn. I really appreciate anyone's advice on this. Perhaps, I am over-analyzing this, but I just want to make sure that I didn't hurt the car in the long run.

Thank you all,

-H

I wouldn't worry about it. 65mph isn't fast, even for third gear.

Personally, I found that the engine needs to put on about 20,000 miles before it gets nicely worked-in, so working it a little harder then normal for the first 200miles isn't going to matter.

When my Yaris only had about 400miles on it, I let one of my friend take it for a test drive. I trusted him cause he totally babied his Celica GTS and wouldn't let anyone drive it, cause he was so careful with it. So what did the little bastard do? As soon as he took off from the stop-light, he red-lined it through the first 2 gears. I was totally pissed off cause I wanted to crack open that babe myself.

WOW THANK GOD FOR THIS POST!!! I've been doing the same thing only difference is that I've driven about 1000 miles. I really hope it doesn't mess up the transmission.
