9 Years

This month marks my 9th year with my Yaris. In that time, aside from general maintenance/tires and a low speed collision repair; I've had to do a little paint work, replace the water pump, alternator and driver side axle seal. Although I don't drive a ton, I think it's been great to me. I still regularly get strangers asking what type of car it is, what kind of mileage it gets and complimenting me on it's looks.

When I eventually do get a new car, I plan to keep my Yaris. It's worth more to me as a reliable extra car than whatever they'd give me in-trade or private sale.

Here's to another 9 years of enjoyment

Nice to hear!

You should add the small OEM-style black rear hatch spoiler on that bad boy.

You know, you're not the first person to suggest that, but if I'm honest, I don't like how they make the car look.

I'm the opposite in that regard, though I'm not a fan of the larger rally rear spoilers like I have seen on some.

The L/LE versions of my car without the small OEM hatch spoiler back there look naked (to me) without it.

I have to concede that I think they look good on the 3rd gens. Haven't seen one on a 2nd gen that I liked all that much.

Keep your Yaris for as long as possible for the optimum bottom line!

Agreed. That's the plan, but the itch to drive something different can be difficult to stave off at times

In my case I had cheap reliable cars all my life for as long as possible (I'm 60) and spent the savings on any and all motorcycles I wanted.

Price being no limiting factor!

It would seem that could apply to not just motorcycles.

Which makes/models are striking your fancy today? Are you small hatchback-oriented mainly, or open to sedans/coupes, SUV's, etc.?

You make a great point. Not having the $400-$700 monthly car payment has allowed me to do a number of other things, including building a decent firearms collection and getting to routinely enjoy them at the range. Ammo isn't cheap!

Def no trucks/suv's for me. Just don't like them from a design standpoint and have no utilitarian use for one. Not strictly interested in small cars either. I've mentioned it around the forum before, the Ford Focus RS really has my attention. If I had to commute for work and needed a new car more than I actually do, that'd be my first look. Over 315 bhp, AWD, aggressive styling, packed with tech...I'm really digging it. Not digging the $40k price tag lol.

Beyond that, I do like what I'm seeing with the Civic Type R and would give that a look when it gets stateside. I like that all new civics will be turbo. As a close third option, the new Accord Sport Sedans are extremely nice. Impressive, aggressive exterior, beautiful interior and the Sport version has dual exhaust and a 6 speed manual option. Think about that, a full size, 4 door shocker with all the creature comforts--along with dual exhaust and 6 speed manual--for $25k That's nothing to sneeze at. I'll have mine in gun metal gray, please!

You know, before my Yaris, I never kept a car longer than two years. While I've owned my Yaris, I've also had:

- 1998 Honda Civic Sedan
- 2009 Suzuki SX4
- 2010 Suzuki SX4
- 2012 Subaru Forester
- 1995 Suzuki Sidekick*
- 2013 Subaru WRX*
- 2001 Jeep Cherokee*
* = still own

Despite that, I've kept my Yaris. I still find it a ton of fun to drive and am still impressed by its handling. Unless it gets totaled, I don't plan on getting rid of it.

'95 Sidekick - classic! Motorola phone, fat rims and a Kenwood!

Man, you've owned more cars while you've owned your Yaris, and currently still own more cars, than I've owned in my entire life lol.

Off to go turn in my man-card now. Be back later.

Man, that's awesome. Quite an impressive list of cars you've enjoyed. If you had to pick a single, all time fav from all the rides you've had, which would it be and why?
