Odd occasional slight clunk

Greetings,
I have a 2013 Yaris (hatchback) ... mileage = 18,000 miles. I've recently noticed a slight clunk (but only occasionally) under some of the following conditions:
1. Downhill (but not necessarily on uphill corners) on tight turns regardless of whether the brakes are engaged or not.
2. Turning into a parking space.

Since I will need to take it to a mechanic here and will be dealing with this in a language I don't speak well, I'd like to have a hint ahead of time as to what might be the problem.

I thought perhaps the car needed to be lubed, but I guess cars this new don't need to be lubed (?)

I should add that I live in a very windy area near the sea with heavy salt air seasonally.

thanks ...

Full lock steering clunk freeplay? over-center link?

It is disconcerting, and I don't know the mechanism of the hiccup, but my 2007 hatch and some forum commenters have an occasional clunk at full steering lock. (Don't consider this enough of an answer, and please let us know if Toyota or anyone else explains it. Thanks!)

So, it's possibly just an odd quirky thing and not serious?

I had a similar occasional clunk on my passenger side. It turned out to be a corroded lower control arm bolt. This is a known issue with the front suspension design, however it is unlikely to occur anywhere other than areas subject to heavy winter weather that use lots of road salt. Water can get trapped in the control arm bolt sleeve and corrode the bolt. The fact that you mentioned you live near the sea makes me wonder if perhaps you have driven thru salt water puddles, possibly trapping that water around the LCA bolts. Is there evidence of rust elsewhere underneath the car?

More info about LCA bolts here:

My LCA bolt story here:

Again this is a long shot but a possibility. Check everything else first as it is likely that it is NOT the LCA bolts but if everything else checks out it might be worth considering.

Mine did it straight from southern CA, where the roof got sunburned and the undercarriage looks like it never even drove through a puddle. 135k miles. Unknown service history.
(The phenomenon has been discussed briefly somewhere on the forum, but no obvious direct search term(s).)
All steering systems have something somewhere for stops to define full lock. Why do we occasionally hear this one?
