Low growl - Toyota Yaris Forums

My 2018 Yaris Liftback has developed a low growl I hear the most between 40 and 60 mph. I replaced all four tires which did not fix the problem. I think it may be coming from the rear of the car. Anyone have the same issue? The car has 50,000 miles on it.

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me. Jack up each wheel intern and grab it at three and 9 o’clock and try and rocket back-and-forth. Then try at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. Start with the rear wheels because that’s where you hear the noise.

Hard to believe it’s a wheel bearing on that newer car but my Ford truck had a bad wheel bearing and 50,000 miles too

I just replaced a rear hub last week. Lots of free play doing the wiggle test and all it did was humm. A bearing in bad enough shape to growl I'd imagine would be exhibiting more issues than just noise. I really don't believe bearing at fault, but you do still need to wiggle test them just to be sure.

Independent garage said the growl needs to get worse before they can figure out what it is. The local Toyota dealer did a "safety inspection" for $150 and gave me a quote of $2,000 to replace wheel bearings (HUB & BRG assembly). Quoted five hours of labor. I did not get it done.

LOL 5 hours labor is a joke..you can do it in your driveway with a jack faster than that
