My First Fill-Up

Hi Everyone...Bought a Flint Mica Sedan- Automatic Base w/Conv.Pkg & All-Weather Pkg on 8/13/07

Filled Up last night for the first time-8/29, here's the numbers.

361.0 Miles Driven
9.499 gallons used (reg.-87 oct.)
MPG = 38.004 !!
- did not use A.C., drove very conservatively,1 passenger in car 50% of time

A special thank you to Churp for that spreadsheet!!

I'm very happy w/ the MPG..I would love to hit 40.00 with an Automatic-if that's possible!
Hope everyone is doing well....

Hi MauiDan

I too just purchased a Red Liftback. My first tank gave me 360 miles. I drove till the blinking light came on. So i believe thats an avrg of 36miles per gallon.

However i had the AC on i would say about 90% of the time. No passengers.

so far im loving it. I went from a Tacoma Xrunner to a Yaris.

from 14 citiy to 36 city.

from a $300 a month gas bill to an estimated $120.

How can i not love it!

Wind Up Toy- Congats on your new Yaris!
Hope you have many years of happy & economical motoring...

Petesimac...mostly suburban and probably only 10% highway..I'd say mostly 45 mph with lights etc. but no rush hour traffic yet (I'm currently laid off unfortunately-1st time outta work since 1970 when I was 15!)

I have babied it so far no doubt but I'm lookin forward to possibly hitting 40mpg- anyone hit that yet with a base Automatic sedan? just curious....

Thanks for the replies and well wishes..hope everyone is well and enjoying their Yarii....take care

I've only got six tanks on my Yaris, but here's what I've done to get over 40MPG (once so far - I'm currently at 280 miles with half tank of gas, looks like I'll get over 40 again):

- Increased tire pressure to about 38psi, and now to 41 psi. It improves mpg, the car rolls much easier, and it also handles better (less force required on steering wheel and much more responsive).

- Driving 60mph seems like an ideal speed for maximum range!

- Turning off engine before traffic lights where I see I'll be waiting more than 30 seconds. When I turn it off I turn the key back to "ACC" or whatever, thus keeping the A/C, power steering and music on. So I'm not in any discomfort just because I shut off the engine.

Lowest I've had so far is 35.2MPG when I drove 90mph. Highest I've got is 40.5MPG with a lot of city.

Is 41 psi the ideal tire pressure because I know that you're also not suppose to overfill it.

I'm quite sure it's less than that..like 32. Don't go by the writing on the tire, go by vehicle requirements.

Yes, I did forget to mention I have an Automatic. My average is about 40-41 MPG. I just keep the revs under 2500 the whole time I am driving unless I am on the highway. I did not inflate my tires anymore either.
