RPM question

Iv noticed while driving on the highway, my RPM's are around 3200-3500. Now my question is will driving at these high RPM's ware out the engine faster? Because other cars i drive are less than this. Thanks for the help.

That's about the correct rpm range for ~70 mph or so, and is typical of engines of this displacement.

Were your other cars 6 or 8 cylinders? An 8 cylinder can cruise along at the same speed while only spinning around 1600 rpm.

It's a toyota. It loves to rev. Don't worry about it.

I found it pretty alarming at first too.

That sounds a little high to me. Is your Yaris an automatic? Mine does 2,600rpm @ 60mph on the freeway with a stick.

Nope, although the mpg drops the higher you go obviously.

Remember that similar cars get the same mpg as the Yaris (or lower) and they all have 5-6 speed automatics too!

The AT is definitely a bit higher than that.
