yes, yes, yes, I fully understand the reasoning especially since esthetically they are very similar, but I prefer this.

Sure! My question is do they sell the Corolla in the same markets overseas at the Vios? A lot of the speculation has been that the sedan version of the Yaris was in direct competition with the Corolla and that supposedly the Corolla would be a no Brainerd because it came with higher quality interior parts.

At the same price, i would pick a corolla (sedan) too, but the rear leg room is supposedly less than a yaris, but you do get a larger trunk.
Other market's Corolla is a 5 door hatchback, so the Vios is not in direct competition. It only makes sense to get rid of the Yaris sedan here. the corolla as we know here isn't sold everywhere.. |

Also, the 2012-onwards yaris you have there is something we don't have anymore. our 2013-onwards yaris are larger and they look similar to the vios. (yaris sedan)--though the paint scheme makes it look like master sifu (?) from kungfu Panda. |

It is truly amazing how different the offerings are globally for Toyota. I don't know if it really makes very much sense.

LOL. well i think the yaris is more custom-fitted for the europeans and americans. that's because the expected "generational growth" of the yaris reflects on the Asian spec'd ones, while they retained the subcompact size of OUR 2011 yaris with your 2012-onward ones.
Also, if it helps to know, if you closely look at the minor details like sidemirrors, inner door openers, map lights, etc., you'll see how much Toyota reuses A LOT of these across several models and across several generations. (e.g. the domelights of our current pickups (Hilux)/midsized SUV (Fortuner) is the domelight of the corollas of the 90s). That's probably where they cut costs insofar as R&D/engineering goes, and invest the engineering on making their wider array of vehicles reliable. |

Here in Panama they do sell the Vios, I got one and they dropped the HB Yaris because they were the same price. Both were 20% cheaper than the older Corolla. With the new Corolla hitting the showrooms soon I see a price issue with both sedans under US$20k and very similar offerings in term of space, performance and fuel economy. I fear that my Yaris/Vios will take a big hit in depreciation when the new Corolla arrives.
