The new Aveo hatch

Well here it is. The new Aveo hatch...at least for Europe but there is a strong chance we might get this. It looks like a warmed over version of the current but it does look better...I don't know about good looking but...eh!

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/11/f...hits/#comments

Obviously no contest with the Yaris but worth noting?
Enjoy!

The one shining point in all that is that they can get it with a 1.2L engine.

Then again everyone but NA drivers can get the Vitz with a nice little 1.0L while we're stuck with the bigger-than-needed 1.5L.

I'd like the smallest engine possible, but I wonder how small of an engine I could go with with promoting too much wear and tear when I predominantly drive 100 km/h on my 52 km commute. Even the 1.5L seems a little stressed at that speed and revs at a constant 2500rpm.

I also bet that the chevy 1.2L is worse on gas than our 1.5L.

I hope this trend towards these kind of cars continues, then I'll be really happy with all the great choices there'll be when it's time to trade in the the Yaris.

I seriously think you need to dump your Yaris and buy a Smart.... or do a motor swap with an RC car... I think that would be the only thing that would make you happy

Most of that enourmous grill isn't even functional. And WTF is up with the far forward centered clock? I hated the one on my '05 rental. I hated the aveo I had to drive as a rental, and the MPG sucks.

Hey, it's better than the previous generation! That's saying something! Looks like a baby Veedub. Considering how many units the 1st gen sold, I bet they can't keep these things on the shelves once they get here. And they WILL get here, you can be sure. GM still needs a little econo-hatch to fill that part of the market.

EDIT: On further review, I actually dig it. It's pretty darn sporty looking for an entry level, and the interior (IMO) has the upper hand over the Yaris. If I hadn't decided against a disposable car this time around, I'd probably go for it. I've got enough GM points built up on my credit card they'd probably just have to give me one anyway.

You have no idea...I have seen so many of those things rolling around...note I didn't say flying...too slow to get a good undercurrent....anywho...they disgust me....they threw together some parts to get into the segment and then I have actually seen signs at a dealership "daring to compare" to the Yaris....they act as if you come to a stop light and see Yarii waiting along side in large numbers...there might be a dozen Yarii in my area for crying out loud...what are the smoking! Idiots make the world go round world go round world go round....

what features do you think were nice on the Aveo.... when I had one as a rental car all I saw was a cheep, CHEEP piece of that materals that were used looked and felt cheep, it drove like crap, had NO power.... I think the only nice feature was that it was avalable in the US as a 5 door, unlike the Yaris

On first impresion, I thought the 5-door was a fairly handsome bodystyle and quite functional; it had great small car appeal. The interior was reasonably well laid out, and I liked the shift gate. I thought the ride quality was surprisingly smooth for a small car. Unfortunately, that's where the appeal ended for me; other than those few things the car was a HUGE disappointment.
