Yaris Seat

Upon buying my new 3-door Yaris I took it to a specialist to fit me with seat covers.
The door seats have a lever on the side that tilts the seat back. This lever fits inside the seat through a 2-pronged plastic tongue. When the fitter pushed this lever back, he accidentally broke the plastic tongue and the Toyota told me that the whole seat has to be replaced because of this bit of plastic.
I appreciate that for technical and economic reasons certain parts cannot be produced as spare, but at least the manufacturer should ensure that such irreplaceable parts are made of stronger material.
I wonder if anyone else has came across a similar mishap and how they managed the repair.
