USB port install in center console - 2009 Yaris hatchback
I have an 09 Yaris hatchback. To the right of the emergency brake in the center console there are four accessory ports. Currently I have a factory installed aux port and automatic dork locks taking up two of them. The other two are empty. I want to install a USB port in one of the empty blanks to use for charging (NOT for music).
I've found an oem dual USB port charger for use in Toyota cars that I can tell is made for the ports in my car, but do not know how to go about installing it properly, and after extensive searching for help videos/articles online with no avail, I've come here for assistance. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. From the look of the item, I think it's a simple red/black (hot/ground) wiring solution but I'm not sure. Thanks! The USB charger can be seen here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/252574886831 |

if you want it to only be on, find a constant hot or run directly to the battery (install a fuse). If you want it to only be on when the key is in, find an acc wire and tap in

I'm going to attempt this mod as well. It could be convenient to install a usb charging station there with a short plug since phones could fit in the rectangular opening near the brake.

No pics but easy install.
Remove center counsel. One bolt and I removed shift knob to get it out of the way. I ran ground wire to one of the bolts under counsel. The other went to the radio accessory wire (pink?). I bought on ebay a usb port that was made for Toyota. It had two blue leds in it. Fits fine, looks neat when lit, good quality and it's fused. All for less than $5 USD. |
