Ignition wiring
I'm in the process of purchasing a 2007 Yaris 1.5L motor that I will not be putting in a Yaris. I'm trying to figure out the best way to wire it up and get it to run. If anyone has done it, I'd love to hear the details.
Option 1 go with stock electronics. TPS, ECM, Transponder ECU, ignition, and a wiring harness or 2. Option 2 With an aftermarket ECU, I should be able to get away from the Transponder ECU, ignition switch and many non engine related wires. I'd still need stock wiring harness and TPS. Option 3 other. Someone locally is parting out a Yaris so I'd like to source as much as I need from him. Preferably all in one trip. Thanks in advance! |

A US 07 will not have the transponder, so you can easily use the stock ECM. The 07 is drive by wire, so you would need to use the Yaris gas pedal as well. If you use the harness and ECM from an ECHO, Scion XA or 1st gen Scion XB, then it is cable throttle, instead of electric.

Cool! So I need the wiring harness under the hood, ECM, TPS (gas pedal), and an ignition switch of some sort. What else am I missing? Does the ECM take care of cam timing and spark?

You will want to make sure that you get all of the sensors attached to the engine as well as the air intake with the throttle body and MAF sensor. The ECM does control all aspects of running the engine (spark, fuel, VVTI, etc).

You would need the ABS Pump/ECU as well as the wheel speed sensors.

Lets say the parts car has ABS. Could I buy that wiring harness and plug in a non-ABS ECM from a different source?

Just to be clear. You are saying that the engine would not run with the ABS ECM with out the wheel sensors and ABS-pump wired in. Even if the wheel speed sensors and brake pump are not connected to the wheels.
