February 2016 Yaris Sales: Down
Feb. '16 Yaris sales were down 33.4% compared to Feb. '15 Yaris sales. Toyota sold 908 units last month for a year-to-date total of 1,456 units, down 48.1% compared to to this time in '15.
Overall, subcompact car sales in general are slowing due to the low gas prices. Full story here: http://www.subcompactculture.com/201...ales-slow.html

Wow, it's not just low gas prices. yaris is losing market share big time and Koreans and GM are gaining. Nissan versa is doing quite OK too. is new yaris priced too much?

Nissan sells scads of Versas--I'm honestly not sure how they do it. Maybe it's the fact they have a sedan and a hatchback? Either way, they sell a ton of them.

I think the market is bored with the generic one size fits all Yaris.
When i bought my Yaris back in 08 they had a sporty looking hatchback and a smart looking sedan. While it looks like they've brought back the sedan I'm just not drawn to what they have now. My 08 sedan runs like a charm but it will be my last Yaris as i'll be looking at something else in Toyotas line up for my next car.

Honestly, I think it has more to do with the price of gas. Even the fast-selling Versa is down nearly 10% year over year.

While I kind of like the fact that I hardly ever see a 2015/2016 Yaris on the road out here (all L/LE versions when I very rarely do), just for the uniqueness factor alone, it doesn't bode well for the future of the Yaris (or Toyota subcompacts in general perhaps) in the USA. I likely won't be buying another vehicle until at least 2022, so it will be interesting to see how the market develops between now and then.

Yes, but look at the total number sold. It doesn't take much of a bump in sales to go up 50% if you usually only sell 1,300 units in two months (e.g. the Miata). In the Versa's case, they've sold 20,255 units in two months—so a 10% dip mean more than 2,000 units!

I don't get the Soul sales. We were given one as a rental and it was cheap and chintzy. And I don't find the look appealing, however I read a study that people who buy Soul's buy them again and again. They are loyal. The Soul basically killed the Honda Element which was better in every way. I'm not a fan or Kia or Hyundai cars. Yes, they have improved, but they are hit or miss. Either the quality is okay or its poor. The better half drives a Sportage and loves it. I hate it. I never ride in it.

I think the current Kia Soul is really good; I really like the design, too. I do wish you could get a manual with the bigger engine, but on well. Most people don't care.
Here's one thing about the Versa and the Soul: they slot in that in-between size. They're bigger than most subcompacts, but smaller than most compacts. It might be the right size and right price.

Should Scion iA sales be included in the Yaris sales numbers? ;)

I traded my Yaris in on a new Versa last week. I was sick of driving a manual and the clutch that was replaced last year was making the same noise again. Frankly, I see neither Yaris nor Versa much around here. Except for the new Chinn population that is coming over from Miramar/Burma, that's the only people I see driving the Yaris now.

Frankly, I actually really liked the base model Versa sedan when I reviewed it. I really enjoyed its simplicity (much like I enjoy my Yaris'). If Nissan offered the Micra here, I'd probably get one.

I got the sedan version, I test drove the Note, too, but I didn't care for that model. I have a picture of my new car in my "garage" here.

i see hardly any yaris in my area, mostly students (like my kid). Versa is another story, tons of them and even more kia subcompacts, just like the sales statistics. Yaris is more common is same places i visited in europe though.
