Toyota Yaris TS to debut at Paris autoshow next month
Toyota says it's bringing a more powerful Yaris minicar to the Paris show next month. Where the base model barely scratches the double digits in horsepower (106), the Yaris TS will wring 132 horses from a new 1.8-liter four with dual VVT-i engine and ride on a retuned suspension. Top speed on this ball of rolling thunder is 121 mph. Expect it in early 2007 for Europe and a big question mark for the US market.
Let's hope they bring this to the U.S. __________________________________________________ _____ Here's the concept version: Refined sports concept for all-new Yaris
This concept has been developed around the philosophy of ‘refined sports hatch’, embodied in a compact bodytype, capable of delivering driving fun to young buyers which, nevertheless, are also seeking a car with a high level of equipment and comfort – something necessary for everyday commuting or weekend trips. The Yaris T Sport concept certainly looks the part, with strong sports styling. At the front the black mesh grille is a highlight and adds emphasis to the deep bumper design with integrated front fog lights. The rear bumper has also been redesigned and the deep side skirts and rear spoiler complete the aerodynamic, T Sport styling. Full 17-inch wheels are standard to offer exceptional handling and ride while the T Sport look is completed by a new tail light design and specially chromed exhaust pipe. To add that personal touch, the T Sport badge is added to the front grille. The Yaris T Sport is finished in a personalised colour, Storm Grey. A new 1.8-litre petrol engine will complement this dynamic sports package. Attached Images |

If they don't bring it to the US, I suggest we storm the gates at Toyota US headquaters.

I have a feeling Toyota will never bring this to the US. Their stance on this car from day one has been that it is an economy car and nothing else. I don't think they're expecting people to buy the Yaris for its blazing highway speeds. Okay, maybe I'm just a little jealous/hurt. Either way, mine will be faster than that one day. MWAHAHA. |

Ι am of the same opinion.
I have heard that this engine is the same tha Toyota installed on Celica, and it came in two version. The one had 140hp and the other 192hp.However, the powerful edition was not so reliable...

132HP is a little lame, but again, 132 on a Yaris is a something to consider...
Anyway, is it me, of the "personalized storm grey" looks like Meteorite Metallic?? |

Sure the 132 may not be much but consider the wieght of this car...and I highly doubt it will be in the U.S. anytime soon...maybe when the Yaris goes for its mid-life cycle refresh or when small cars get really popular here...

and for the 132 hp- i guess it's the same reason the toyota mr-s didn't get the 2zz engine- because it's what toyota thinks is good for you. just my two cents. EDIT: maybe i'm totally wrong on both posts- the yaris Tsport is going to use the "leftover" 1zz engines a la corolla xrs with the 2zz!

I don't know about the States, but the Yaris Liftback seems to be a big hit here in Canada. If Toyota wants to keep the hype going and continue to steer away customer from the Honda Fit, it makes sense to at least bring it over to Canada where that market is hot.
Also, I get the feeling that Yaris liftback could use a little bit of extra weight up front to help with take-off/traction in bad weather. So the 1.8L might naturally be a good mate for the car (in a weight distribution perspective). Hopefully they'll mate the 1.8L with some very tall gearing so it'll be more usable for the streets. I'd hate it, if they gave it some race track gearing and tried to pit it against the Civic Si (We know how that'll end). Insted, just make it a more usable street car (which it already is), but dial in some fangs. If it does come to Canada, switching my 5dr Le Yaris for a 2dr TS will be one of my priority. |

I have read that it will need 7secs to reach 100km/h!
