Exhaust leak at engine.
You can hear the leak when you’re driving and excelerating. It’s quiet when you’re just motoring along. I did my old trick of plugging the tail pipe with a rag and listening for hissing, But didn’t hear anything. There is no check engine light either.
What’s involved in fixing it? I can’t do the work anymore. What do you think Toyota would get to fix it? Thanks!

re:
I'm having a similar issue. Not sure where the leak is coming from. I'm also wondering if I'm hearing transmission noise as it get louder with acceleration and quieter once it's up in higher gears (automatic transmission).

I’ve heard of a leaking connection between the exhaust manifold and where it connects to the exhaust system. There was a post describing how to fix it but I can’t find it.

I wouldn't take it to Toyota. I'm not discounting the benefit of going to trained techs that work on Toyota's all day long, but I'm done paying the outrageous dealer pricing. Especially on something like an exhaust leak. If it were me, I'd pull up Yelp and search for the top rated muffler shops in my area. Can probably find a more personable, trustworthy shop at a fraction of the dealer cost.
Just my 2 cents. |

Got it fixed today locally and yes it was the Doughnut under the exhaust manifold. They charged me $100. Thanks for the help!
