kn drop in?
I know that the oil on the filter can clog the maf.. but is there another drop in filter that doesn't have to be oiled and just cleaned? or is there a good cai or sri that doesn't have a filter that's hard to remove from the intake and cleaned? Preferebly a filter that will last for many miles.. and not have to be cleaned a whole lot.. and a filter that isn't oiled. Thanks

+1 on oiled filters. I've used K&N drop-ins for many years.

^^Yeah +2 on that , i've also used k&n filters for years and many different cars and many styles of intake i.e short ram, cold air , drop in filter and never had a problem with my maf . Just don't over oil the filter after you clean it and your maf will be ok .
If you want something differnt , thats a dry element drop-in filter i've seen Blitz for about $50 C-one for about $90 and Trd drop in is about $110 |

~22000 kilometers so far on my 2008 sedan all with a K&N drop in and never a hic-up. Over 250000 kilometers on my TurboTalon with a K&N cone type intake system, again, never an issue. It still ran STRONG when I let it go.

What do you think.. kn vs. afe (or unoiled filter) which one will collect particles better? and does anyone know how often afe has to be cleaned? Thanks
Also when you hacked the airbox.. did it help a lot? |

I belive that k&n claims their filter to flow the most cfm's and also filter the most. The oil on the filter will also catch more crap . Its really a personal prefrence on "wet" or "dry" filters imo. Yes hacking the bottom of the airbox helped tons , it sounds just like an short ram intake now. A lot of sucking sound just reving it and under wot it really screams .I gained about 2 mpg's also, the best/cheapest modd i've done so far and it looks all stock too.

so the consensus is.. that the kn filter will filter better than a dry air filter such as the afe? Thanks

Yeah , I just hacked off the whole bottom , about 3 " up from the bottom .I Just turned the box on its side and hacked the whole bottom off . If for some reason I ever want it back to stock, I can just plastic weld the bottom back to the box . It also retains the clips for the lid and the little post that seats into a rubber gromet in the engine bay, so it looks just like stock . This is the best power/mpg's - dollar modd out there . I plan on showing the car and will be going with the stock air-box lid flip upside down and a C-one drop-in filter which looks very killer and still a clean oem look too.
