circuit city closing for good!!

Just tried to go the the circuit city website, starting tomorrow on they are starting the closings of there 567 stores. They will stay open til everything is gone, which they said about March. I'm not surprised about it, everytime I been in there their was never a whole lot of people shopping, and I think it has to do with the ecomony. About 34,000 jobs will be gone.

Through more than 15 years of them being around I never once found a use for them. No computer parts, limited selection of overpriced home electronics, pushy extended warranty stuff, etc.

I'm suprised they lasted this long. They must have been bleeding cash for a long time.

It seems clear that there is only the need for one major electronics retail store that isn't online sales only... and that is Best Buy, not Circuit City.

I won't miss the store, never go to it. Maybe I will now with hope of getting a good deal at their closing sale.

Big number of this story.... 34,000 jobs lost

With Tweeter gone and now CC, Best Buy will be next. Do some research, as silly as it sounds Walmart has taken market share away from BB this past holiday season. People are buying on price and Walmart has seemed to be undercutting all other retailers on home electronics.

when it comes to closing first I'd go with Radioshack before I went with the leader, Best Buy

Here in hawaii, Circuit city always had the same price as Best buy.

HhGregg is not on the same scale as the other Electronics stores mentioned here.... in fact this is the first I've ever heard of them, had to look them up to find out what they were

when Circuit City 1st arrived they stocked a good variety of hard to find artists , releases on cd . Got my HARMAN KARDON AVR 25 receiver , H.K. FL 8450 , and HK dual cassette deck there . At a fairly good price too . A shame due to all the other businesses , banks , etc. it will hit ( ex. unpaid loans , lost patrons of restaurants , etc. ) . It's a domino effect from here to across the seas .

I don't think too many businesses will be hurt by the loss of a Circuit City near them simply because usually where there is a Circuit City there is a Best Buy... and I'd imagine now where there once was only a Circuit City there will soon be a Best Buy.

Maybe in your world. There is no Best Buy near where I live, even though there is a Best Buy distribution center close. Circuit City closing will leave a void.

I understand that if people purchased an extended CC warranty they are screwed.

I only fell bad for the soon to be un-employed. CC designed this disaster themselves and kind of deserve it.

The two that are in my county are closing. Gotta jump into the next for some last minute items ... but best buy always seemed better to me.

I remember when CompUSA went out of business, and also when FutureShop pulled the plug on US stores. Neither really had that great of deals, Nothing you couldn't beat by looking at Craigslist. CompUSA only marked their stuff down it seemed like 10% at first.... then after a month, 20%, and then after about 2 months, 40%. I was thoroughly unimpressed. Just cause a company is closing doors doesn't mean you will get killer deals. If you are going to buy something anyway.... sure.... give them a try, but i wouldn't justify buying something simply because "it'll be cheap".

According to their website, not really...

Are Circuit City's extended warranties affected by the liquidation?

* No. Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City's closing.
* Currently, all Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are fully backed by the Assurant Solutions companies. Assurant Solutions operates as Federal Warranty Service Corporation, Sureway, Inc., and United Service Protection, Inc. Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), and its extended service contacts are backed by an Assurant insurance subsidiary rated A "Excellent" by A.M. Best Co.
