I'm not suprised as the HB Yaris has a basic, pratical shape that is akin to many new cars these days.

Let me assure you, this is not a case of great engineers coming up with an already seen solution regarding automotive design. This is straightforward industrial copying.
The pic in the article is of a concept, but Great Wall has been known to show interest in the Yaris. Also, they are producing a car called "Florid". Anyone recognize that front end? Or the steering wheel? Or does the Coolbear (yeah, it's actually called that) remind you of something? So we'll be (I live in Estonia) the first ones to get our hands on those cars in Europe. Hope the smell of plasic won't cause too severe health problems when the cars reach our shores (has been known to happen with the Jiangling Landwind they tried to sell here a couple of years ago). |

That's all the Chinese do is copy the leading industrialized countries. Cars, electronics, you name it. It's completely blatant and shameless too.
I guess culturally, they have no pride and dignity. Guess that's why they have the largest cash reserves. They don't need to spend money on research, design, and development. Just take someone else's hard work, copy it, and use chinese slaves to build it. |

They already have the platform. All they need to do is put a body on it. Why engineer when you can steal and the govt doesn't do anything.

Let's be honest here....
There is only so much you can do to vary a basic shape of a particular car type. All car maufacture copy what sells from their competition to one extent or another. |

Yeah but you gotta admit China's overdoing it. And you know they are because there are parts that look obviously interchangeable with other makes. That's not competitive design, it's just plain laziness IMO.

Now, before we get too righteously indignant about Chinese copying, don't forget that Toyota started that way, too. They bought a Chrysler Airflow, a Ford and a Chevrolet, took them all apart and measured everything. The original Toyota had a body styled very similarly to the Airflow on basically a Ford chassis (many parts being directly interchangeable), and the engine was a direct copy of the Chevrolet six cylinder. In fact, back in the '70s when I was interested in four wheelers, the Toyota Land Cruiser still used an engine that was copied from the 235 c.i.d. Chevrolet Six.
