A few questions...

Hi all! Apologies for the vague topic title...

Possibly buying a 2010 manual 4 door/hatch (if it exists :) to replace a 1989 accord as my nearly 40k miles/year daily-driver and occasional autocross toy.

I just have a few questions...

- Does the 'base' model actually exist (e.g. no radio etc)? I'd love to save a few bucks and install my own HU/speakers.

- Does toyota check autox registrations/go to events, and void warranties "accordingly"? I'm used to autox'ing my '96 mustang with no worries ;)

- My other choice was a civic or fit, browsing honda forums I came across numerous paint & transmission problem threads. Seems like the Yaris is fairly problem free in these respects?

- All types of stability/traction control can be turned completely off?

Thank you!

-it's gonna be hard to find a 4dr manual in the us and most of them have at least the weather convenience package if not fully loaded.

-I've never heard of toyota checking for autox for warranty. As far as I know that's for gtr's and other high end vehicles.

-Paint is thin and there really are no major problems with the car, just a seatbelt recall on the 07-08 models.

-Idk about turning traction control off on the yaris but i would assume you can since you can on other vehicles

the yaris is a great car and is worth the money, but drive it and find if it meets your needs

i dont know about in the states but in canada you have to get an HU.

i waited almost 3 months for my car to have it the way i wanted it but its finally here( saturday i'm picking her up)

as for the all trac(vsc) and stuff. i was told if u get a 5speed it doesn't come with all trac(vsc) and ABS ia always on. dnw as soon as i get it and we have other snowfall i'll let u know if anything is stopping me from drifting sideways, lol

in canada only the top model even comes with VSC or ABS, EBD and BA (maybe even a little bit of BS??)

Thanks for the info guys!...

I don't mind if it's got abs/ebd, as long as there's no traction control or stability control that can't be turned off.

In terms of paint, are certain colors more durable than others?
I'm going to get either white or silver.

How is Toyota with basic aftermarket mods such as a muffler and springs/struts? I know certain other brands will fight owners tooth & nail (VW) to void repairs under warranty...

Ebd, is electronic brake distribution. You would want to turn off tcs, not ebd, that involves dumming down the engine when the tires slip. I've never found ebd to be a bad thing unless maybe you want to adjust how much braking force is used between each brake.

switch to turn off TRACTION CONTROL only available in the sedan . It's found on center console near emergency brake lever . We're getting an 2010 3 door and no ON / OFF switch to be found . Why ? . Goofy move by TOYOTA .
