What could this be?

I have a 2007 Yaris, 5 speed Manual. Everything was fine until yesturday. I was taking off in 1st from a complete stop, shifting from 1st to 2nd I could hear a "bang" behind me. It did not sound like a back fire as I could feel it directly behind my seat, it felt like it was coming from under the car. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd I could hear it again but not as loud and there was nothing from 3rd to 4th gear. I thought it might be my portable little air compressor that came with the car josling around so I secured it. Still when shifting the sound is there, now just not everytime I shift.
I looked under the car, everything appears ok, nothing loose, I thought maybe it might be a spring getting ready to go, but rear suspension appears intact. Any Ideas? Should I take in to the dealer. I bought it used and have another 2 months on the dealer warranty......

I should clarify too the sound is coming from behind me under the car on the drivers side, it is in the area of the where the spring and shock is located in the very back of the car.
