Replace Stock Speakers
I'm looking at replacing my front speakers and I've narrowed my selection down to the Kenwood KFC-1662S or Kicker 07DS600. I'm also open to other suggestions.
I don't plan on having an amp or sub. I'll also be replacing the factory stereo. |

I got these puppies in my Yaris, I like them.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...TS-G1643R.html Good cheap speaker that works with lower power. ( as in: straight off the deck power ) Good hi and mid, but don't expect these speakers to give you much bass. They won't. I run a subwoofer in my Yaris. I use my Pioneer HU to cut all the lower frequencies going to my 6 1/2" speakers, so they can crank louder without distorting. My sub gets all the low freq's, so everything stays clean. My x-over point between my speakers and my sub is 125hz. Keep it simple!

Were those speakers installed in the front? For some reason, Crutchfield likes to list 6 1/2" speakers as rear seat side panel speakers. I know the sticky here lists it as front speakers for the liftback.

I bought a set of 6 1/2" and a set of 5 1/4" speakers.
I popped my panels off, and looked the situation over. I decided to gut the factory speakers, and mount the new speaker inside the factory plastic rings that are actually part of the old speaker. The plastic housings are pop-riveted to the car. The front and rear factory speakers are slightly different in size. The front ones seemed to be slightly larger than the rear ones. ( 3dr HB Yaris ) So I test-fit the two different sizes of the new speakers, and found out the 6 1/2" ones fit both locations the best. So I went back to the store and exchanged the set of 5 1/4" speakers for another set of 6 1/2" speakers. So I am running all 6 1/2" speakers in my Yaris. I had to do a little trimming on the plastic ring in the front locations, to allow the new speakers to sit flush, but it was easy with my Dremel tool. I should have taken pictures of it, but I did not. ( Easier to just show a picture, than to try and explain it. )

Am I going to have any problems with installing a 6.5" speaker in the front that has a top-mount depth: 1-11/16"? Crutchfield shows that it won't install in the front. Do I have to do anything outside of the standard install to make it fit?
