Scion xD vs. Honda Fit

Hi,
I'm the owner of a 2010 Yaris 3-door, and I'm helping my girlfriend pick out a car.
What she's looking for is a small base model hatchback, a little bigger than the yaris. Preferably something super-reliable, good on gas, not too big, but making efficient use of its size. She's thinking a manual transmission.

Today we looked at toyotas and hondas. The matrix was too big, so I think we're between the xD and Fit. The dealers will give us both at invoice, which comes to $14,500 + recent college grad for scion, or $15,500 for honda.

I was curious if anybody has some insight as to which car might be better, or if there are any hidden drawbacks to either.
Thanks so much in advance!
Dave
