What chemical to use for cleaning oiled air filters
the k&n recharge kit is getting expensive, im looking for something cheap, I still have a lot of k&n oil but the cleaner is out, Im just wondering if I can use ammonia to take out the oil?

You can purchase the cleaner seperately in various sizes.
Perhaps that would be an option. |

I would think any degreaser would work, probably even common dish soap. But if you use ammonia be sure to dilute it first.

Start another Oil Thread!
|
skip all of those and buy a bottle of simple green.
it's perfect for the job (i've used it dozens of times) finish off with a water rinse, let the filter dry naturally than re-oil

I usually use the K&N clearner kit. But when I run out of cleaner (but still have plenty of the oil), I use laundry detergent. I figure it's cotton so why not use soap intended for cotton? Plus, detergent will get grease (or, K&N oil in this case) out. And finally, if you do your own laundry, you will always have some around! Use Woolite if you're worried about it being too harsh...
