HELP!! hard time on which to choose.
ok i know it's a long message but just help me out here. HELP!!! ok i know were comparing apples to oranges here but i can't decide on whether to get a yaris (which i think is a really sweet car, except for the tach thing) or a new honda civic. yaris hatch or sedan? which one is more fun to drive? i currently have an "90" accord and swear by honda and said i would always stick with them but.....their getting a little pricey. i guess my concern with the yaris is that ol saying "You get what you paid for". but both are really nice. i hate it b/c my sis-in-law just got her civic sedan but she got bent over the counter on the extra b.s. they add on to the tune of 395.00 per month. no way i'm paying that. i'm looking more at 200-225 per month. i can do the civic if i put down ~ 5000 + my trade (~500) just to get it anywhere near the payments i'm looking for but i would have to wait another 3 months or more and i don't know if it's really worth it? is the yaris REALLY, REALLY that good? i mean i know its not a sports car and thats not what i'm looking for. i'm looking for good transportation and quality. i hate car payments like everyone else and plan on keeping the car for a long time. i guess they hold up because they do so well in europe. well i could keep babbling on forever. so if anyone has any insight, plz send it my way.

WELL i dont know much about the financial aspect. But my advice is get the base yaris with ABS and side airbags, if you cant get both at least hold out for the side airbags.
Then you will be WELL under the civic price and should be able to easily make your desired monthly payments. Then instead of having to pay that 5k up front to honda Add in the aftermarket powerlocks/remote starter/keyelss entry/alarm, power windows, gps nav with dvd player aux combo and some speakers and it will probably come down to less than the power package option on the yaris, and still be well under the civic total price. If you have any extra you can even add in some bars for performace and a moon roof to really top it all off. Thus you get a MUCH sexier car for less up front value and less overall cost. That is what i wish i had done anyway:P i was ignorant though. i went for that damn power package...ugh, how dumb... it was the freakikng 60/40 split seats that tricked me. (and you can always wrap up and store your rear headrest in the trunk with the spare tire, that way they dont block your vision and if anyone is coming with you they are still on hand.) so i say get the base yaris, fix her up and be proud, just dont forget to post some pictures along the way. |

Here in Canada, the Civic is only about 2K more then a comparatively equipped Yaris. So, if having a Hatch is not a priority and you can stomach the Civic's style, it'd be a clear winner.
In the States, the Yaris has more of a pricing advantage when compared to the Civic so it'd be a tough decision. Some factors to consider is: -after market add-ons to make it track ready (the tiny Yaris can be made to become a track star) -rear door (not a factor in Canada since we've got 5dr hatch) -tachometer (not a factor in Canada since Tachometer is standard) -Civic's class leading crash ratings -Hatch's generous cargo capacity vs Sedan's Trunk. -Small size and tight turning radius which is ideal for big city driving vs Civic's longer wheels base and relax cruising for long distance drives. So, what it comes down to is your personal preference since they're both good car and have their own personalities. Just pick one that matches yours. |

Pars, will adding a tach cause any problems with the factory warranty?
