Simple bolt-ons

Heya

Just wanna ask what bolt-ons can I put on my 2NZ-FE Yaris Sedan?

I mean, for sure I know how slow it is stock... but then, if it's possible to put out a little more power from its puny engine, without going the FI or supercharged route, then it would be perfect.

It's a manual so I guess the tranny wont be a hindrance... if ever, it will be. Tho I doubt it will be since the mods I'm planning are just simple. Nothing major.. yet.

I prefer power from low-mid rpm range, so I'll go with a 4-2-1 header, a short ram intake (since Ive read somewhere NZs prefer short rams) then what do I do with the rest of the exhaust? I'm no fan of really loud mufflers so if anyone has a suggestion what to do to the rest (cat delete? change pipes?) without really making the sound too loud. It's just a 2NZ after all.

I'm fine with a little rumble from the exhaust.

Any others? Lightweight crank pulley etc?

Btw does anyone happen to know what's the baseline power of the 2NZ-FE? On paper it says around 85hp & 122Nm on crank. I wonder how much power does it have on the wheels

Thank you so much!

I looking to do a similar setup as well, to be honest, I regret getting a 2nzfe model as I am spending money to get 1nzfe power =[

I intend to get an intake kit, headers and light weight crank pulley.. Mostly scion xB parts so i hope they fit

That's where the fun comes in -- exploring our engine's capabilities.

^ That's a ridiculous excuse, obviously. Lol.

Anyway, what kind of intake are you planning on getting? K&Ns are the ones that are most popular back here so I'm wondering if it's actually worth the buck. I know the headers do a significant increase in power, so I guess that won't be a bad choice at all esp. it's just around $160 new

Light weight crank pulley isn't a popular mod back here for our engines/cars so it's one problem that I see. Would want to have one though since I heard they really do wonders.

What about a chip?

Toyota's ECUs have yet to be cracked (to my knowledge) so most of the "chips" you see for them are either just a parallel capacotir or a series resistor that changes what the ECU sees from a sensor. Our computers will learn the differences and compensate accordingly.

I have the 1nz but i feel your pain. aftermarket is sparce. luckily, we have guys like garm for the 1nz motor.

The stock normally aspirated engine in my Yaris enjoys a 21% gain in horsepower with simple bolt on intake and exhaust components, no tuning, and regular 87 octane pump gas.

Intake
Throttle Body
Intake Manifold
Exhaust header
Axle back Exhaust

From any Toyota wrecking yard. Or better yet... off ebay.

Do a forum search on "1ZZ throttle body" and you'll find lots of good information.

Just remember that the best gains come from a combination of components working together... and not just one.

Don't buy that one!

It's a cable operated throttle body and it won't work on our drive by wire cars.

In fact don't buy anything until after you've read up on it first, and understand exactly what you need to get. It'll save you a lot of grief from buying the wrong parts.

Hey, big thanks to you guys.

I think I'll go with the simple IHE setup first then work my way through.

So do I opt for a short ram over a drop in intake?

I don't know if you can use the 1ZZ throttle body given that you have the 1.3 liter motor and not the 1.5 liter motor.

research would have to be done on that.

if you are using the same throttle body as the 1NZ motor then I think it would work but it is just a guess.

research, research, research...

Better to check with someone else who knows about the cable operated throttle bodies. I have a drive by wire and only know about those.

Does your throttle body attach to the intake manifold with 3 or 4 bolts?
