Question Oh look another "I need help with my fog lights" Thread

Yes I did search, but didn't find anything with the problem I'm having. Heres the story. I purchased a kit from micro image, installed them, and they worked as they should. Then, I started having problems with the switch to turn them on so i contacted Micro Image and they send me out a new one. When i put it in, the switch lights up and the light that turns on when the fogs are on lights up, but the fogs don't turn on and the light on my dashboard does not light up either. I checked the fog light fuse and it was good and i rechecked all of the wiring and the grounds. I have no tester so i can not check the relay, but when i unplug it, the switch does not light up at all. Everything is how it should be, but they do not turn on. Anyone have any ideas on whats going on? This was the install guide I followed.

You can bypass the switch to test the relay, lights, etc. by simply jumping pins 3 (yellow wire) and 4 (orange) on the headlight stalk connector (with the headlight switch on and in the low beam mode). You can use a paper clip or piece of wire to jump them.

When i jump pins 3 and 4 together, the fogs come on. So that means that the relay is shot? Where would I be able to get a new relay, or would i have to go to the dealer for that?

No - Just the opposite. The relay, fog lights and wiring are all fine. The issue is with the switch. The problem is that the light in the switch is in circuit with the switch, which causes the relay coil to not be energized. You need to follow the "new" version of the fog install instructions that I put together that explain how to isolate the switch from the light. The problem is that the switch that comes with the kit has a circuit board inside of it that is intended to be used with the harness that comes with the kit. When you use the kit with the OEM wiring the switch needs to be modified.

So will i need to re-wire my set up, or all i have to do its take the 1 resistor out of the switch? If i need to do re-wiring, im going to need some help because the colors of my wires are different to the ones shown in the install write up. Or better yet can i just make a permanent jumper from pin 3 to pin 4, because they worked like they should when i jumped them to test the relay.

If you can pop the cover off of the switch and take pictures of both sides of the circuit board with the wires connected I can sort out if you need to just snip the same resistor as the prior switches.

If you permanently jumped 3 to 4, the fogs would always be on with the low beams.

Ok, for a temp. fix I created a jump from pin 3 to 4. Here are the 2 pictures of the switch.

To start with, you need to snip the resistor on the bottom in the first picture (yellow, violet, brown). The red wire (next to the green) will then connect to pin 3 and the green to pin 4.

Can you by any chance snap another picture of the bottom of the board, without flash? I am having trouble seeing exactly what is connected to what with the glare.

Snapped a better picture.. The wires from top to bottom are black, red with yellow stripe, green with light green stripe, and then another red with yellow stripe.

Actually the other side of the circuit board is the one I need.

Perfect. OK. Just cut the resistor and wire it per my document above.

Ok so right now I have the resistor out of the switch and the way it's wired right now is the green wire is in pin 3 and the red is hooked up to the yellow wire that originally came out pin 3. So I need to take the green out of 3, put it in 4 and disconnect the red from the yellow and put it in pin 3? That leaves the yellow and a white wire (taken out of pin 4) not connected to anything?

The yellow and orange wires in 3 and 4 are connected to nothing on the wiper stalk (basically they are just mounted there and if a stalk with the fog switch on it was installed, you wouldn't need to even mess with your switch).

That being said, basically you just need to have the red wire connect to the yellow wire and the green wire connect to the orange wire. By the red and green, I mean follow the red next to the green and the green down the harness to make sure that specifically your are working with the other end of those wires that leave the switch connector.

As for the white wire, follow that back up and see which one of the 4 switch wires that connects to.
