New Yaris owner, awesome car.
Hey all,
I just purchased my first car, a 2008 Toyota Yaris sedan black. It's awesome! Love the way it handles, good acceleration, excellent fuel economy. Couple of questions: 1. My Yaris came without Air conditioning, is it possible to be added? 2. How fast is too fast for this car to handle? I got it to about 120 KM/H on the highway but didn't go too much faster. The car is automatic. This website is a great resource. First link on Google. :) -PC Last edited by Positive Climb; 04-29-2012 at 06:33 PM. |

If it wasn't such a pain to remove, I'd sell you mine out of our new 2012 Yaris. We didn't want AC but had to take it in order to get a manual transmission.

I ordered mine without air conditioning but it came with it anyway, 2012. You can get the dealer to install air conditioning but it will cost you some $1,700. bucks. Just roll down the windows and get that cool Canadian air.
How fast is too fast......... I'm still working on it. 140kph is just fine but the fuel goes down a little faster. Nothing wrong with 120, thats still 20 over the speed limit.

Disclaimer: I was not endangering anybody.
The fastest I've taken out cars is 170 kp/h. Long straight stretch of empty highway, wanted to see how it handles at that speed. Surprisingly stable. Then again I have a rear sway bar, front strut bar, and am lowered. |

I rarely use the a/c in my Yaris, and I live in southcentral Texas where triple-digit temps are the norm during the summer.
However, it can be useful in high humidity environments to help clear the condensation on your windshield. I don't think adding a/c is an easy endeavor, I would ask at the dealership first as they should know the best method to add a factory system. If they don't/won't/can't install one, see if they can recommend someone who can... And 120 KMH is not fast, that's only 72 MPH and I regularly exceed that as the speed limits on our highways down here is 70 MPH (80 MPH if you head out to west Texas). I've had it up to 80 MPH for brief periods and it handles fine. I wouldn't regularly travel at those speeds as 1) you're liable to get caught and 2) it kills your gas mileage. Plus, this is a small, light economical car not really made for high speeds. Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your new Yaris as much as I have mine! Cheers! M2

![]() How could you not want AC living in LA? I use my AC in anything above 50°f. Seriously. And BTW, AC is standard in all US models. You can't order one without it. |

It is possible to add it...for a small fee.
How fast is too fast for the Yaris? Well that depends on how far you want to take it. I'm not going to say how fast i've had mine up to, but if you want to do speeds in the triple figures then I would highly recommend coilovers and high performance tires. I have both of them (granted my coilovers are a little softer then I like) and it makes the car unbelievably stable now. I also have the Ultra racing 23mm rear sway bar, but that doesn't affect it as much as the tires and coils imho. |

Too fast. . . by law, that would be the speed limit. But my personal definition is anything faster than you are capable of handling. The Yaris is more than capable of handling anything thrown at it, assuming that conditions (and the driver's skill level) is up to the task. But in the real world, most people fail at assessing road conditions and/or their own capabilities behind the wheel. You also have to watch your speed differential with other traffic and leave plenty of room for emergency evasive maneuvers, with the proper assumption that other people will drive like @@#$%(* and make stupid, unpredictable lane changes.
Take some defensive driving courses and find a racing school (to learn how to feel the limits of a car). . . or better yet, sign up for your local autocross.

What does it look like without A/C? Do you not have vents either?

Vents would still be there for the fan, and heater. Just no cold air.

I've had mine up to 107mph(172.2km/h) chasing a matrix, so it will go fairly quick but i suggest keeping it under 100mph, there is no real need to go more than 10 over the posted speed limit.
