will this fit a yaris?

It's for an old Toyota Corolla 1ZZFE 1.8. Would it bolt up to the 1.5?

The really long equal length runners ought to give it a lot of bottom end torque.

I've got one in the shed, and no, it won't bolt up as-is. The cylinder spacing is too wide, so the ports won't match up. I've got a thread around here somewhere with a schematic...

Here it is: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39274

Hey, thanks, for the info, Cranky.

I happened to see one on ebay and really liked the design. No wonder they were so cheap!

^ That intake would also be for a cable throttle body, I think.

Hey Garm,

It's definitely old enough to fly by cable. I found some more pics and besides the ports not fitting, its throttle body has only three studs.

I just thought that design was really intriguing as all the runners point directly at the throttle body with no inline plenum needed. It would flow just like a backwards 4-1 header and eliminate all of the unequal distribution issues of inline runners.

By the way, that grey ceramic coated half round plenum header was actually the Weapon R intake. I found some more pics from the backside which showed their half round profile design.

Oh, I forgot about that part. I made up a template to adapt a 4-bolt DBW throttle body. Now where did I put it...

OK, here's the template for the 4-bolt side: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36796

And here's the thread where I first saw this mod: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36723

I made up a model in CAD for the adapter plate but have no idea if the offset will cause issues. Gonna have to get some time this week to convert the part to a drawing.

Wow... so some of you guys have already been down this road.

Cool.

Just picked this one up on ebay for $85 including the shipping.

I really like the low end torque design and know a couple of really smart guys who have their own CNC in their garage. Heck, even if it cost $400 to adapt it, I'll still have a really neato intake for under $500.

Would you mind if I used your template drawings, Cranky? They would be a big help in moving the project along.

Tooter, how are you going to match the flange to a 1.5L head?

Hey Garm,

Not sure as I haven't even seen it yet, but I'll figure out something. The intake is so dang cheap to begin with, I can afford to go first class on the adaptation.

Aluminium cuts and welds easily and the manifold itself is a great start with Toyota's flow engineering having already been designed into it.

Please do! I can even supply you with the CAD files if you're having it CNC'd. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is the bolt hole placement, and it's missing the gasket channel on the engine side.

Thanks so much!
I'm not exactly sure what to do yet, and need to talk with the cnc guys as I know absolutely nothing about how this whole process works. I just ran the electrical feed and wired the sub panel to power their cnc machine. I think the bolt hole spacing can be pinned down using the stock manifold. Possibly the gasket channel too, or maybe I'll just trace and cut out a flat gasket from some stock as the plate will be nice and thick.

So the original mounting flange gets cut off and the runners ground to fit into your adaptor and welded up?

When I get the manifold within the week I'll be removing the stock one so as to be able to put the openings side by side. The nicest part is that the manifold design already works. Each end just needs to be adapted to fit the new engine and throttle body.

...and there's this for inspiration...

Basically, yes. The runner spacing will be a little too wide, so they will have to be coaxed in to the new holes. If you can pin down the hole measurements, I'd be happy to update the model.

Grinding the runners a little bit offset should compensate to fit since they are likely larger than the intakes on the block.

I'm going to buy an old stock manifold so that the car doesn't need to be taken apart as it's our daily driver. Then I'll be free to use it as a side by side frame of reference with the Corolla manifold, and be able to get the bolt hole measurements.

This looks to be a really fun project.

I'd like to do that mods too :O

Does is need a cable throttle body ?

SO tooter you will use the stock one with the 1zz one ? to make it fit ?

I'm going to use the stock fly by wire throttle body to minimise having to change out any other components. It will likely be an adaptor plate that bolts onto the Corolla manifold's three threaded holes, and has the proper threaded stud holes to accept the 4 studs that will match the stock throttle body.
