Can Toyota Have It Both Ways?

Concerning the protesters at the recent New York Auto Show:

"Outside the New York motor show, protestors scaled the 20-metre walls of the Jacob Javits Convention Center to hang a sign admonishing Toyota’s charge into gas-guzzling trucks and 4WDs, saying the company that builds the Prius hybrid can’t have it both ways."

Here's another link (with pictures of the protest):

What do you think? How can a company that produces high mileage cars and is leading the way in hybrid technology continue to produce something like the FJ?

Myself, I wish Toyota would continue full-on with extending hybrids into their entire product line starting with Scion but money talks and trucks continue to sell to gas-guzzling Americans.

Why would it really matter if a company could have it both ways? What really matters if you have it Your way lol. It's the choice have whether buying a econocar or a gasguzzler and Toyota just gives you options to choose from just like any other car company out there.

Well Toyota could (and is) maintaining the status quo or they really could step up and change the way the world thinks about automobiles and alternative fuel options, even in their trucks.

One thing is clear to me and im of a simple mind: something has to change. The less oil I use means the middle east has less of a stranglehold over America. I strongly support any effort by any car company to produce automobiles that run on anything besides gasoline (except sand, they have plenty of that in the middle east!)

And exactly why can't they have it both ways? Who says a company has to specialize in one certain field? If they can do both well, more power to them. It's the consumers who can't have it both ways. If you're purchasing only one vehicle, you've gotta' decide which route to take. Putting that responsibility on a company is just silly.

Though we are talking about eco-nuts, so it's not surprising they try.

I like this: “If Toyota really believed in curbing global warming, why did they argue with the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers in the Supreme Court that CO2 is not a pollutant and that the EPA should not have the right to help regulate greenhouse gas emissions?”

Umm, CO2 isn't a pollutant. Is she wanting to starve the trees to death or something?

Check this out:
Over 95% of the Greenhouse Effect is caused by atmospheric water vapor inhibiting the escape of radiant heat from earth's atmosphere. The remaining 5% is caused by so-called greenhouse gases like methane and carbon dioxide, most of which comes from nature.

Carbon dioxide is really a tiny constituent of our atmosphere-- comprising less than 4/100 of 1% of all gases present (360 ppm).

Toyota is a company... It only provides US the option... It is up to us... The people to choose that option... It's our responsibility to save the world... Not Toyota... Toyota does enough by giving US the Option!

Toyota should go both ways… It’s the reason they are the Number 1 auto maker in the world!

Thank you Toyota~!
