My new Yaris

Just wanted to share an image of my new Yaris. U.K. spec. Icon + 1.33vvti petrol Multidrive automatic. Quite a few "toys" etc. as supplied. It's a pre-registered car and only had 8 miles on the clock. I don't know if dealers have a similar thing elsewhere. But they buy the car from Toyota and register it to adhere to their monthly quota!
I personally think it's fine as is, so no add ons or changes necessary.
It replaces a Mk2 Yaris Diesel. Multi Mode Transmission (automated clutch)

Why'd you sell the diesel? Was it any good?

It is beautiful...! Congrats! I love the dashboard on mine, love the whole car, I am so hooked on this car! I would love to see one of these (Yaris) with a diesel. Last diesel I drove was a Diesel Chevette! They had a little Izusu diesel in them, a 1.8 I believe. All the ones I drove were brand new at a dealership, I liked them, 'cause they were new and different and it sounded like a truck let you were driving a Chevette, LOL. The U.S. always gets the watered-down version of everything out there

Diesel Chevtte! Cool!

I bet diesel in 1980 was going for 29 cents a gallon too.

Yes, an excellent 1.4 litre engine. It was achieving 60+ miles per (Imperial) gallon.
My circumstances changed though and my driving is now mostly urban with no decent runs to help clear out the Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF). My concern was that this would eventually fail and lead to an expensive bill!
Also the Multimode transmission (automated clutch and gearchange) is very expensive to "fix" if anything goes wrong after warranty period.
Plus I was able to get a very good deal for a virtually new car.
The new car has What Toyota call Multidrive S - a fancy name for CVT but with an added feature of manual mode, gear changes controlled by either steering wheel paddles or the shift lever. No doubt very expensive to fix post warranty too!
I too find it strange that you seem to get a "scaled down" version in the U.S. with regards specification.

don't you do the DPF blockage DIY trick? In our country the diesel ones do this trick by putting a thin plate to prevent Diesel recirculation, leading to higher consumption (of course, with no unburned fuel being reburned) but leads to cleaner emissions.

I how much diesel was going for back then, but the diesel Chevette was pretty neat to cruise around in, if only around the dealership & frontage road and whatnot. Gosh I do miss those wild 80s, what a decade!

I agree. Brick House was from the 70s, but people were definitely still putting it on party tapes and CDs in the 80s.

I LIVE in a Brick House!
Yes, brick phones were 80s definitely, they are actually in demand from what I've heard...

It had a long bank of sealed windows that looked out on the sidewalk. Once, I was at one of the window tables with these same friends and someone bounced a soccer ball off the window, close to our faces. Naturally, we turned and looked out the window. Standing there (outside), holding the soccer ball, smiling and waving, was Rod Stewart. I've driven around the area a bit twice in the last 10 years (while there for other reasons) trying to uncover that location and couldn't (not important, but you know...sometimes something feels as though is on the tip of your tongue and sticks in your craw when you can't remember the detail you want to remember...and can't find the answer on the internet). Perhaps AbsolutelyRed12 remembers this restaurant.

Yeah, brick phones were definitely 80s.....the first truly mobile phones...the step after those big multiple piece ones in cars in the 70s (that were hard wired into the cars and couldn't be removed). There has been a bit of a 'vinyl record resurgence' as well.

Back in 1980, a gallon of regular went for about 95 cents and diesel was about a buck ten. Those prices didn't change until about Sept 2001.
